The aim of this symposium is to bring
together researchers from different fields of computational and
experimental biology, to discuss the use of biomolecular interaction
networks to study cell function in both physiological and pathological
contexts. These interaction maps, also known as interactomes, model
protein-protein, protein-DNA and protein-small molecule interaction
networks either within an organism or within specific cellular
contexts. The function of proteins, nucleic acids, and other
biomolecules can only be defined through their interactions in vivo.
Such biochemical interactions – including those involved in signal
transduction, transcriptional and translational regulation, as well as
in the assembly of large molecular complexes – are astonishing in their
magnitude and diversity. For instance, it has been shown that most
proteins interact with multiple partners, forming intricate interaction
networks. Similarly, individual transcription factor can bind to tens
of thousands of genomic sites and regulate the expression of thousands
of genes, both in isolation and in combinatorial fashion.
Regulatory interactions play a key role in determining cellular
differentiation, in maintaining cellular and organism homeostasis, and
in triggering abnormal differentiation events leading to human disease
including cancer. Not surprisingly, even slight genetic and epigenetic
perturbations of these regulatory pathways can trigger macroscopic
changes in normal cell physiology and lead to disease. Due to the
abundance of experimental data, researchers are starting to uncover
some general rules and principles underlying molecular interaction
networks: their topological properties, the relationships between their
components, evolutionary conservation and divergence, and their role in
maintaining specific cellular functions and processes. Despite
significant advances, however, knowledge about the distinct functional
roles of many proteins is still elusive. Thus, interaction networks
have emerged as exceedingly useful tools in predicting context-specific
molecular function based on knowledge of upstream regulators, cognate
binding partners, and downstream regulated targets. Furthermore,
molecular interaction networks are starting to provide a unique
integrative context to study additional disease-related genetic and
epigenetic data, including single nucleotide mutations and
polymorphisms, gene copy number alterations and complex, polygenic
diseases.

After almost twenty years of efforts towards augmenting fuzzy systems with learning and adaptation capabilities, one of the most prominent approaches to do so has resulted in the emergence of genetic fuzzy systems. These kinds of hybrid systems meld the approximate reasoning method of fuzzy systems with the adaptation capabilities of evolutionary algorithms. On the one hand, fuzzy systems have demonstrated the ability to formalize in a computationally efficient manner the approximate reasoning typical of humans. On the other hand, genetic (and in general evolution-inspired) algorithms constitute a robust technique in complex optimization, identification, learning, and adaptation problems. In this way, their confluence leads to increased capabilities for the design and optimization of fuzzy systems.

The regulation of gene expression has been studied traditionally at the level of transcription. While a few examples of translational regulation were known, they were considered interesting exceptions to the general rule of regulation at the level of RNA synthesis. However, over the last few years it has become evident that several widespread posttranscriptional, mostly cytoplasmic mechanisms have profound effects on gene expression. All of these mechanisms ultimately contribute to control protein synthesis, either directly, by affecting the rate of translation, or indirectly, by affecting the abundance of mRNA. Some of them exert a qualitative, all-or-none control, for example by complete repression or elimination of certain mRNAs, others determine the intracellular location or the cell-type in which a particular RNA is translated, and still others have a quantitative effect, controlling the amount of protein made from a certain mRNA. The analysis of some of the most exciting aspects of these cytoplasmic mechanisms of gene regulation is a major focus of this meeting.

The publishing of the draft of the human genome and the recent advancements in high throughput sequencing and functional genomics technologies has ushered in a new era of rapid and exponential growth of data related to how organisms function at the molecular level. A major part of the information to support this understanding is available on large number of heterogeneous databases in both structured and unstructured formats. One challenge is to obtain information and knowledge from these databases and integrate them in a semantically consistent way, in order to be able to analyze them using novel quantitative conceptual and computational approaches smoothly connecting models and experiments. This can offer life scientists a deeper system-level understanding of fundamental biological principles. Examples of computational challenges in this new research paradigm, called systems biology, include identification of biological pathways, structure annotation of proteins, inference of biochemical networks and pathways using experimental data, information, and knowledge scattered over heterogeneous databases.
The convergence of computer science and biology is both a data- and model- driven new science that necessitates the development of mathematical/computational models and data mining algorithms, that can enable scientists and bio-engineers to analyze with predictive ability biological information that guide the development of therapeutic and biotechnology solutions.
The SAC 2010 BIO track is motivated by the rapidly growing importance of the informatics vision for novel levels of understanding in complex biological and biomedical systems, and will address research issues related to the whole spectrum of bioinformatics with a particular focus on integrative, inferential and translational bioinformatics.

The graduate students of the Department of Childhood Studies at Rutgers University, Camden invite submissions for papers and poster presentations for their first formal graduate student conference on April 9, 2010. Graduate students from all disciplines who are engaged in research relating to children and childhood are encouraged to submit proposals.
In an attempt to define this emerging and diverse field, the Exploring Childhood Studies conference proposes defining Childhood Studies by "doing" childhood studies; the conference will explore the field by offering explorations within it. We seek papers from all disciplines that keep the child, children, and childhood as their central focus, providing critical thought and insight while locating them in different contexts, fields, and ideologies.
With an increased awareness of international globalisation and European integration, the existing mainstream conceptualizations of multilingualism and linguistic diversity have been increasingly questioned, in particular within the humanities and the social sciences. In a EU context of socio-political transition it is therefore a challenge to take stock of the existing disciplinary knowledge, and to reassess it against the background of the ongoing integration process which goes along with the transformation of traditional linguistic and cultural patterns where languages still function as markers of national identity and as symbols of social and economic power manifestations.
After almost four years of joint research, the goal of this top-level conference will be spreading the outcomes of research conducted by the LINEE network of excellence at the European and national/regional levels of policy making as well as to the general public and the public media with the aim of strengthening linkages between theoretical analysis and the dissemination of research results. In cooperation with researchers involved in the DYLAN project on language dynamics and management of diversity the Conference will also strive to provide a common platform for the exploration of new perspectives for research in the identified field.
The theme of BioVisionAlexandria 2010 will be New Life Sciences: Future Prospects. It will aim to identify and explore the new frontiers and new areas in life sciences that will vastly serve humanity and provide hope for solving the world’s most pressing issues.
Keeping in tradition with previous BioVision Alexandria conferences, BioVisionAlexandria 2010 will commence with a Nobel Day; where distinguished recipients of the Nobel Prize will share their reflections and experiences that helped in the advancement of sciences and renovated our world. The Nobel Day is dedicated to honor Nobel Laureates; whose vision and perseverance in the quest for scientific excellence and novelty has changed our lives. During the three days, distinguished speakers will share their expertise and insights with the larger audience, mostly from developing countries.
The Conference will focus on three major themes: Health, Food and Agriculture, and Environment. Each of these themes will be addressed by representatives of the greatest minds in industry, science, policy-makers and civil society fields.
This third International Conference on Harmonisation between Architecture and Nature (Eco-Architecture 2010) follows the two successful meetings which were held in the New Forest, UK (2006) and in the Algarve, Portugal (2008).
Eco-Architecture ought to be in harmony with nature, including its immediate environs. Decisions have to be taken on ecological grounds concerning locations, siting and orientation, as well as the well-informed choice of materials.
Eco-Architecture can provide imaginative and expressive solutions and is driven by a generation of highly creative designs. It has important cultural as well as architectural impacts.
Eco-Architecture makes every effort to minimise the use of energy at each stage of the building`s life cycle, including that embodied in the extraction and transportation of materials, their fabrication, their assembly into the building and ultimately the ease and value of their recycling when the building`s life is over. The design may also take into consideration the use of energy in building maintenance and changes in its use, not to mention its lighting, heating and cooling, particularly where the energy consumed involves the emission of greenhouse gases. Substantial savings can be achieved by the choice of materials appropriate for passive energy systems, especially natural ventilation, summer shading and winter solar heat gain. Solar and wind energy can provide heating and electric power.

The general theme of "Dams in Transition" organized the German Committee on Dams of 14 eV to 16 April 2010 in Aachen, the 15. German Dam Symposium.
More than 80 abstracts were submitted to the focal themes Will be "Current Hydraulic assigned projects" and "News from research and development". That makes me feel confident in two ways:
Our industry upswing again, or - to remain in technical terminology - Buoyancy feel!
The lecture program of the 15th Dam symposium promises to date!
Of the selected 45 abstracts were submitted for the symposium. In addition to spectacular dams and hydropower projects (not only from abroad) as well as reports about the latest developments in research, law and administration can expect the participants of the symposium practical experience from the reservoir operation.
With this preliminary program, which was necessary because of the large number of submitted papers, inform the German Association Talsperrenkomitee still before the publication of the final program for the state of readiness, enabling all interested parties to register early.
The symposium ends with a full-time professional tour around the scenic German-Belgian border region. The operators of the German and Belgian dams have pledged their support. Thus, the field trip participants, many new impressions - may not only be expected from hydraulic structures, -. In addition, promising the sights of the traditional city of Aachen is an interesting supporting program, which goes far beyond the famous Aachener Printen.

In the 30+ years since FASD was first identified, children with FASD have become adults, and many are now in their 30s and even 40s. As time has passed, their changing and emerging needs have become obvious, but the areas of research, experience and front line practice have frequently functioned as separate and parallel systems, rather than intersecting ones. Focused and targeted approaches across multiple areas, services, and systems have recently begun to emerge to address the urgent need for an integrated approach to addressing FASD in adolescence and adulthood. This conference will bring together a diverse group of professionals and families to share research, experience and practice in order to sustain and enhance the lives of adolescents and adults with FASD, their families, service providers, and communities.
Continue to expand our understanding of FASD as it presents in adolescence and adulthood and its potential implications and applications.
Learn about current findings about adults and adolescents with FASD from scientific, clinical, and community researchers.
Learn about innovative programs, projects, and practices that are making a difference.
Hear from individuals most directly affected.

Sixth International Conference on Urban Regeneration and Sustainability
This Conference aims to address the many inter-related aspects of the urban environment from transport and mobility to social exclusion and crime prevention. The meeting will build on the contributions made in previous conferences, which successfully managed to provide an international view of the problems facing modern cities and their solutions.
Urban areas produce a series of environmental problems arising from the consumption of natural resources and the consequent generation of waste and pollution. These problems contribute to the development of social and economic imbalances. All these problems, that continue to grow in our society, require the development of new solutions.
After our very successful Developments in cell culture technology to enhance cell growth in vitro

The current networked world has created a global landscape and a mandate for a significant change. The Internet has enabled communication and collaboration across the world and brought many computing models. In that landscape, people and organizations have been distributing the work, service and technology anywhere in the world. The last decade is marked by the development of many technologies and strategies in improving the efficiency of computation. Heuristic-based methods and reasoning have also been reported in the literature but little effort has been made by researchers to combine all the available techniques. The proposed conference will discuss what we can learn from computing systems and how we can implement the output of computing systems in an intelligent way using the state-of-the-art methods and technologies.
This conference will bring research across the countries at a broad level on computing systems. The conference will have presentations, workshops and industrial contributions on intelligent computing.
The year 2010 marks the beginning of a new decade in 21st-century art
historical investigation and an ideal moment for a reassessment of
historical objects, issues, and methods, as well as acknowledging newer
works of art and criticism developed across disciplines, periods, media
and practice boundaries. Papers that address or employ new methods and
issues are welcome, but equally important will be
state-of-the-discipline investigations and critical assessments that
may be uni- or multi-disciplinary, object-based, pedagogical,
interrogative, theoretical, or performative. While we hope that the
full historical and methodological range of the discipline will be
represented, and the proposal of sessions devoted to the widest
possible range of periods and cultures is encouraged, the 2010
conference particularly welcomes proposals related to medieval and
Renaissance topics.

he massive scale of the seasonal mobility of population is a
comparatively recent phenomenon which imposes considerable stress on
the environment and is particularly acute in the case of coastal
regions and islands. The problems are more serious for the case of
islands or archipelagos which have limited resources and possibilities
of developing supporting infrastructures.
Most islands
cannot provide all resources required to maintain a large seasonal
tourist population and in many cases basic requirements such as water
and energy, as well as agricultural produce, need to be imported.
The impact of large seasonal population increases in the community and
the resulting socio-economic factors need to be carefully evaluated, as
well as issues related to transportation and communication, all of
which should be part of an overall strategy.
Different islands present a variety of diverse problems but much can be
learned by sharing experiences in an appropriate form. This conference
on Island Sustainability provides that opportunity.
The Forum has as its mission to support the movement for health care improvement. It aims to improve outcomes for patients and communities, provide practical ideas that can be implemented in the workplace, promote research into quality and safety improvement, foster effective innovation, and connect health care leaders and practitioners worldwide.
The main way that it meets these aims is through the annual Forum, a three day meeting that brings together a very international group of people (from chief executives and government officials to health care managers and clinicians) who share a concern and a passion for improving quality and safety in healthcare. This year’s Forum in Berlin, for example, brought together 2,000 attendees from over 60 countries to take part in sessions that ranged from the basic disciplines of quality improvement to the latest thinking in how to improve quality and safety.
Our Vision Improve outcomes for patients and communities
Provide practical ideas that can be implemented in the workplace

In
recent years the field of cryopreservation has witnessed enormous
expansion in clinical and basic data. Conferences are becoming more and
more informative but there is often only limited time for thorough
discussion. There seems to be a gap between the enormous expansion of
knowledge in the field of cryopreservation and the dissemination of
that knowledge. This development has created a great need to debate the
many controversial issues and crystallize them into clinical
conclusions.
This controversies Congress stems from the fact
that current congresses fail to promote true clinical discussion
between practicing physicians and researchers on unresolved pressing
issues.
Scientific Topics: Freezing,
vitrification and freeze drying • Freezing of stem cells • Cord Blood
preservation (UCB) • Basic understanding of vitrification • Clinical
use of vitrification • Oocytes • Sperm • Sperm freezing in primates • Fertility Preservation • Animal embryo freezing • Ovarian tissue and fertility preservation • Embryo freezing • Cryo-Bank

Autophagy is an evolutionarily conserved fundamental intracellular
degradative process operating as a homeostatic mechanism in all
eukaryotic cells. Following the genetic breakthroughs in yeast, the
field of autophagy research has been growing exponentially resulting in
a cornucopia of discoveries regarding the molecular mechanisms and
physiological roles of autophagy. The latter include adaptation to
stress such as starvation or genotoxic insults, clearance of
intracellular components including damaged or surplus organelles and
protein aggregates, anti-aging, neoplasia, metabolic disease, immunity
and development. In human populations, autophagic dysfunction has been
directly associated with neurodegeneration, cancer and inflammatory
diseases.
The 2010 Gordon Research Conference on Autophagy in Stress,
Development and Disease is our 4th GRC on autophagy. The goal of this
conference is to facilitate an integrated approach to defining the role
of autophagy in physiological and pathological processes and to
elucidate the mechanism of the autophagic pathways. The conference will
present cutting-edge research on these topics. In addition, we will
include sessions on the longstanding key fundamental questions: “how is
autophagy regulated?” and “what is the origin of the autophagosome?”
The conference will bring together investigators who are at the
forefront of the autophagy field, and will provide opportunities for
junior scientists and graduate students to present their work in poster
format and exchange ideas with leaders in the field. The 2010 Autophagy
GRC will be an ideal venue for both experts and newcomers to the field
of autophagy research. Topics to be addressed include the following:

Aged individuals appear to be content with their lives although
indicators express the contrary. Let us not be mistaken by this situation. As
Emile Durkheim states “Human mind is not reliable; we can only get to know the
social world with meticulous studies” (Diekmann, 2007, 31). Thus, the changes in
the demographical structure of our country should compel us to pay attention to
old age and the living conditions of the aged individuals more than ever.
The number of psychologically and psychiatrically ill, isolated
and lonely aged individuals has been increasing. We should discuss attitudes
such as alcoholism, drug dependence and suicide which have become a reality in
Turkey and increasingly widespread among the aged individuals before tabooing
them. Especially the problem of nursing neediness of the aged, and violence,
negligence and abuse towards the aged which are generally in connection with the
said problem are the significant subjects that should be brought up to our
country’s agenda. The situation of handicapped children and youth who are the
majorities in number as well as that of aged handicapped alarms us in terms of
future. While seeking a solution to the problems of old women, young women
should take measures on this very day in order not to end up like their
grandmothers.
Since there is not any social field which is not affected
by these developments, none of the disciplines should lie outside the sphere of
these developments. Ageing and agedness are multidimensional and complex
phenomena. With the help of medical, psychological and sociological solutions,
agedness should lose its position as a period of life when lots of people look
forward to dying. On the contrary, it should be turned into a period of life
which is worth living.
While the lifetime increases more and more and it is not know
when it shall end, today agedness has become a period of life which comprises
one third of our lifetime in total. For a woman who becomes a grandmother when
she is fifty years’ old, the chance of seeing the marriage of her grandchild
after she brings up him/her has increased rather well. Half of the girls who
were born in millennium shall be able to see the 22nd century. However, the
lifetime of men keeps up with that of women. In the near future, a great
majority of our country’s population shall be made up of individuals who are
above 60. Based on rough estimates, we should take into account the fact that
the number of these people shall exceed 30 millions in 2050 in Turkey.
Nowadays, people question not how long they shall live but how
they shall live. Developments which alter living conditions positively such as
the proliferation of hygienic environment, healthy diet and opportunities modern
medicine offers continuously add new years to our lifetimes. Yet, successful
ageing and quality of life in agedness should be the key concepts in order to
make this time period which we have succeeded in adding to our lifetimes a more
prosperous period. Our objective should be to relieve agedness of poverty, make
it free from illness and nursing neediness and create active and gleesome aged
individuals. This offer is highly profitable not only in terms of individuals
but also in terms of social security systems. As the number of ill and dependent
aged individuals decreases, our social expenditures shall decrease as well, thus
“empty safes” shall be filled up.
On the other hand, both international effects and national
effects of demographic ageing are the leading subjects which are constantly
emphasized in the scientific literature. Effects which are negative in general
has gradually become much more apparent; in addition to economical and political
globalization, social ageing phenomenon becomes a global problem.
We should comprehend the gravity of the warnings that have been
made by the United Nations Organizations since 1980 and take our place in the
international struggle against the results of social ageing. International
Social and Applied Gerontology Symposium, which we shall hold in Antalya between
28 and 30 April 2010 for the forth time, is an indicator of this common struggle
and a product of the desire of making agedness a livable life period.
The objective of International Social and Applied Gerontology Symposium
is to make the “crying” face of agedness laugh in these days when we have
started to feel the constraints of social ageing at different levels. It is a
significant science feast with the participation of numerous national and
international scientists. It is a door of Turkey which opens to international
Gerontology field. In addition to its scientific contributions, it contributes
to the perception of image and various employment areas of our country. It does
not only prove with scientific evidences that agedness is a life period which
can be planned, but it calls attention to gerontological application areas. The
objective is not only discussing the problems in detail; in contrast it is to
put forward solutions and solve these problems. Furthermore, it is to warn local
and centralized administrations against demographic developments for the sake of
their young and dynamic future and to concretize the desire of conveying
information they need for generating better social policies.
In order to
prove that agedness does not mean loss of sufficiency but it is a process which
is related to sufficiency acquisitions, people who grow older need economical,
social and psychic accumulations and abilities through which they can make use
of these accumulations. Thus, while sociological, psychological, cultural,
medical, media, tourism, etc. dimensions were discussed in the first symposium
in 2005, social and application dimensions of social ageing were addressed in
the second one in 2006. In the third symposium held in 2008, taboo subjects were
handled in addition to current gerontological subject matters. Now, we have been
carrying on our studies for the purpose of opening our doors to Gerontology
world for the fourth time in 2010.
In the symposium which shall demonstrate the ever changing
aspects of agedness, we shall try to indicate that agedness can become a
plannable and meaningful life period with conscious attempts. While informing
about the will of increasing the number of active, dynamic and participant aged
individuals and the way of realizing this will, we shall pay sufficient
attention to the problems of aged people as well. While stating expressly that
the number of active aged people shall increase with the attempts at different
levels, we shall “not ignore” the specific problems which the patients of
Alzheimer, which is one of the primary problems resulting from longevity, and
their nurses encounter. While pointing out social, psychic and physical problems
of agedness, we shall deal with the subject matters such as migration and
agedness, changing aspect of migration and growing old in migration for the
first time in this symposium. Moreover, we shall provide detailed information
about the development of Turkey in Gerontology and the technology directed to
aged individuals which Gerontology has been showing great interest in recent
years in the symposium.
Thanks to its vision and mission which we consider to be
significant for Turkey, our science world and society derive important
experiences from the traditionalization of this symposium. I kindly invite you
to 4th International Social and Applied Gerontology Symposium. Respectively.
LIA is celebrating its 50 years of
teaching English amidst considerations that are being raised in the
current context of English language teaching. LIA started out with
Audio-Lingual teaching practices, which, at that time, seemed to be the
most common approach. In the process, as new methods and practices came
about, LIA has explored and adopted new teaching practices to optimize
language learning.
Today, English has become the language for
communication spoken by native and non-native speakers worldwide. The
tremendous demands for the use of English in the 21st century have
forced language teaching experts and professionals to look into other
concerns besides language teaching and learning alone but language
teaching and learning in different settings, cultures, and linguistic
backgrounds. The profession of English language teaching today has to
examine the pros and cons that deal with considerations of World
English or World Englishes, English as an International Language, and
acceptable standards that should be applied.
To keep abreast with what language
teaching experts are concerned with, LIA International Conference 2010
hopes to provide a platform for language teaching experts and
professionals to bring in and share new insights, current
considerations and problems that impact on language teaching and
learning in all of its aspects: linguistic, social, and cultural. LIA
hopes that with this kind of dialog, the conference will bring about a
better understanding and greater tolerance and acceptance of the
differences in communication among world cultures.

The conference endeavors to provide an effective forum for academic and industrial researchers to meet and communicate on the status and future trends in properties and phase equilibria important to the design of products or processes. Multi-scale simulation, interface confined behaviors are continuous basic issues. Nonequilibrium thermodynamics (including reaction, transportation) plays important role. Thermodynamics is still the main source of inspiration. Manipulating biomolecules, design and development of pharmaceuticals, nanoengineering and nanotechnology, foundations of equilibrium thermodynamics, innovation in product design and development will still be included in themes. The focus is on products and processes related not only to the traditional oil, gas and chemical industries, but also to the pharmaceutical, food, plastics, textile and cement industries. Moreover, biotechnology, energy, environmental and sustainable development technologies are important topics of the conference.
Fluidization is an important field of both fundamental research and broad industrial applications. Current understanding of the complex fluid-particle two- and three-phase flow patterns, coupled with heat and mass transfer and chemical reactions, is still insufficient for practitioners to reliably design and scale up commercial fluidized bed reactors.. The past twelve ECI Fluidization Conferences, from 1975 to 2007, have put the emphasis on fundamental research to stimulate exchange of ideas from researchers all over the world in order to develop generic tools and theories for applications.
The proposed Fluidization XIII conference will continue the tradition of this conference series, with its focus on fundamental research on fluidization, but it will significantly expand into emerging applications of fluidization and novel fluidization technologies, especially those related to new processes for the production of environment-friendly chemicals, pharmaceuticals and renewable and sustainable energy, such as hydrogen and bio-fuels. Debris and hyper-concentrated flows are among the most frequent and destructive of all water related processes. They mainly affect mountain areas in a wide range of morphoclimatic environments and in recent years have attracted more and more attention from the scientific and professional communities, and concern from the public, due to the increasing frequency with which they occur and the death toll they claim.
Higher population pressures on natural resources and increased activity in hazard-prone areas have the potential to increase the magnitude of hazards. This calls for improvements in the criteria used to identify debris flow risk areas and to design suitable prevention and mitigation measures.
The conference will provide a forum for engineers, scientists and managers from laboratories, industries, governments and academia to interchange knowledge and expertise in the following fields; erosion and slope instability, sediment transport, debris flow and debris flood data acquisition, debris flow phenomenology and laboratory tests. It will also allow the discussion of the most advanced, state-ofthe-art methodologies in monitoring, modelling, mechanics, hazard prediction and risk assessment.

The world of lipid mediators is
expanding. New and unexpected biological functions, biosynthetic
pathways and receptors are being revealed for lipids as appreciation of
their complex interactions with protein and DNA are appreciated. New
actions are still being added to classic mediators such as
prostaglandins and leukotrienes. Lipid mediators are now recognized to
influence a broad swath of biology from inflammation to allergy,
immunity, cardiovascular diseases, cancer and behavior. Advances in
lipidomics enable us to monitor dynamics of a variety of lipid
mediators simultaneously. In this symposium we invite distinguished
scientists to share their progress in this expanding field and to
present a comprehensive view on what lipid mediators do in our body. We
invite also scientists interested in the translation of such basic
science from model systems to an understanding of the role of lipids in
human physiology, disease and drug action. Expansion of our
understanding of the role of lipid mediators affords the opportunity
for novel therapeutic opportunities, examples of which will be
discussed in the symposium.
Molecular
recognition phenomena are central to most biological interactions
and processes. They are responsible for the non-covalent specific
interactions between biomolecules and various ligands and between
two or more biological molecules exemplified by receptor-ligand,
DNA-protein, antigen-antibody, sugar-lectin and other recognition
phenomena.
In
recent years, our understanding of the basic physico-chemical
principles underlying all these interactions has grown considerably
both at the structural atomic level and at the functional level
in terms of kinetic binding constants. This course will discuss
some of the unifying rules that govern all molecular recognition
phenomena and will describe how novel nanotechnology and biosensor
tools have helped to analyze single molecule recognition events
as well as the dynamics of intracellular interactions.
Two days of the course will be devoted to the study of two instances
of molecular recognition phenomena in immunology,
1) the nature and prediction of B cell epitopes in proteins and
the development of synthetic vaccines.
2) The modulation of innate and adaptive immunity to pathogens
The course will stress the basic principles underlying the structure,
dynamics and activity of biological recognition sites and will
illustrate the application of this knowledge to two current research
areas in molecular immunology.

Once again, IJAS proudly hosts an end of the academic year program in the midst of pristine nature and ancient history, in a conference that is both relaxing and intellectually stimulating. From the surrounding aromatic purple fields of lavender, to the ancient town of Nimes steeped in Roman vestiges, our conference sets out on a four day journey of academic tours and conference presentations launched from Aix-en-Provence, the former capital of Provence and the birthplace of Paul Cezanne ("We live in a rainbow of chaos").
Life goes on beyond IJAS as well, and delegates will find a whole slew of events and activities in the region. Some may want to take a 22-minute car ride from Aix-en-Provence to Marseilles, the crossroads of the Provenחal tradition and the exotic influences from the Middle East and its souk-like markets. Others may want to invest their free time in culinary delights, savoring the bouillabaisse and other authentic local dishes, and sipping the region`s finest wines along cobbled streets and perched villages.
The Provence is the cradle of art. Monet, Renoir, Dufy, Bonnard, Signac, and van Gogh borrowed the Provenחal landscape and inspiration for their work. Matisse and Picasso spent a good part of their life in Provence, an open-air Musיe des Beaux Arts.
This workshop
will bring together mathematicians, statisticians, modellers, biologists,
epidemiologists, engineers, physicians, computer scientists, public health
officials and others who are interested in sharing views and experiences on
the use of mathematics in a broad variety of medical areas. The goal is not
to present highly technical papers. Instead, participants will step back from
their day-to-day activities and reflect on the impact of their research: how
and to what extent do mathematical results "trickle down" to the
front lines of the fight against disease and make a real difference to the
"end-users" and their patients? (for example through tangible benefits
of improved cancer therapies or positive global health effects of infectious
disease modelling). Medical imaging, cardiology, oncology, pharmacology, epidemiology
and other fields of medicine benefit from the use of mathematical/statistical
methods and will be represented at the workshop. English will be the working
language.
The conference theme is `Development to Translation`, which will be addressed through a range of formats
including Keynote lectures, academic symposia, contributed papers for oral and poster presentation,
workshops, "hot-topic sessions" and industrial satellite sessions.

More than half of the world’s population lives in cities, a trend that is rapidly accelerating, especially in developing countries. In the USA, urban areas are merging into huge megalopitan areas, especially along interstate highways.
Cities require and use large quantities of energy and materials, metabolizing them and generating large quantities of waste products and pollutants, resulting in unsustainable environments that adversely affect ecological integrity and diversity and human health and well-being. As many city dwellers are disconnected from the natural world, it has even been suggested that a new species “homo urbanus” is emerging.
Attendance at this meeting will enable to you to:
Learn of the latest information about urban pollution problems and what measures can be taken to overcome obstacles to sustainability and life quality.
Present your research as an oral presentation or in the poster session.
Network with wide delegation of international researchers with common interests and concerns.

Technology advancement has proven to improve living standards in various aspects; however the sustainability of this improvement has came to doubt. Mankind has realized that technology advancement has depreciated habitability of their earth when the technological development does not consider its impact on the well-being of the earth. It is now without doubt that technologies should be "green". With rising energy costs and the threat of global warming and energy crisis, the society is now recognizing the benefits of using green technology to reduce carbon footprint, minimize waste and recycling. Sustainable development is the core of environmental or in green technologies. The field of green technology encompasses a continuously evolving group of methods, researches and materials, from techniques for generating energy to environmentally responsible disposal of waste.
The Conference aims to bring together researchers, engineers, academicians, industrial professionals, policy makers and regulators from diverse fields including building design, manufacturing, information technology, electronic and communication engineering, power engineering and education, to present, share and exchange research work and initiatives in areas relevant to green technology.

We are glad to announce that in 2010 there will be held the 10th
International Vilnius Conference on Probability and Mathematical
Statistics. For almost four decades Vilnius conferences had provided
important venue for our science, especially before the collapse of
Soviet Union, when the relations between scientists from "East" and
"West" were restricted.
We hope that the 10th conference,
celebrating this small jubilee, will provide a forum for the
international exchange of knowledge among scientists and give an
impulse for international relations between participants, statistical
societies and other scientific organizations.

Throughout history, many leading thinkers have been inspired by the parallels between nature and human design, in mathematics, engineering and other areas.Today, the huge increase in biological knowledge, developments in design engineering systems, together with the growth in computer power and the developments in simulation modelling, have all made more comprehensive studies of nature possible.
Scientists and engineers now have at their disposal a vast array of relationships for materials, mechanisms and control. The resulting laws have been painstakingly assembled by observation and analysis and span the cosmic scale of space down to the molecular level of genetics. In particular, they have made us aware of the rich diversity of the natural world around us.
It is these developments which have prompted the reconvening of this international conference on Design and Nature. It is intended that the meeting will bring together researchers from around the world working on a variety of studies involving nature and their significance for modern scientific thought and design.

Among the many changes computer technology has brought us in the past decades, the drastic changes in our ways of communicating are the most noticeable. E-mail has taken the place of traditional mail and telegrams. Web sites take the place of corporate brochures and product catalogues, electronic forms are starting to make traditional paper forms obsolete. Traditional printed reports lose their primary in corporate communication;PowerPoint presentations, wikis, and blogs take their place. Formal one-way communication structures are replaced by more informal network structures.
Self-Service
These changes have increased the possibilities for the general public to get engaged in activities that traditionally belonged to the responsibility of specialists. The Internet enables us to become our own travel agents, bankers, or even our own physicians. wikipedia is a striking example of the way members of the public co-create a source of information that matches or surpasses the well-respected Encyclopedia Britannica and its counterparts in other countries. Our society is changing from service to self-service.
Consequences
The move to self-service has important consequences for technical and professional communication. To mention only a few: Web 2.0 features enable the public to contribute to or amend (technical) documentation. User forums, weblogs (blogs), and wikis have become important sources of information about almost every conceivable topic. The roles of information creator and information user are becoming interchangeable. Administrative organizations such as banks, insurance companies, and government agencies increasingly use the Internet as the channel for transactions with their public. Health organizations are using the Internet for communication purposes, from health advice and consultation to remote monitoring of patients.
New Questions
This raises important questions for technical and professional communicators. what are the social and economic implications of the self-service world? Who will profit, and who runs the risk of being excluded? What are the consequences of the "digital divide" if everyone is expected to "help themselves?" How can technical communication and usability specialists support the development of self-service environments that make sense and empower the public to put them to good use? How can we teach our students to effectively create and use information in self-service environments?
We hope to explore these questions and other issues at IPCC 2010.
This conference is an opportunity for scientists and industrialists from all over the world to share ideas and achievements in the theory and practice of soft computing, intelligent databases, intelligent information systems, business intelligence, data mining and knowledge discovery, ontologies, intelligent control, decision support systems, neural networks, machine learning and intelligent measurement.

With
the availability of whole genome sequences, research attention
shifts from gene sequences and genome content to protein
functions and systems biology. Genes comprise a major component
of the `parts list` that is required for building and maintaining
of living organisms. Genome DNA sequences reveal the genetic
inventory for a rapidly increasing number of species. Defining
and interpreting the instruction manual for protein functions,
individually and collectively, is the emerging challenge.
Defining
protein functions is a complex problem because each gene
typically encodes several distinct proteins. As a result,
the protein inventory includes as many as 100,000 distinct
proteins. Protein functions can vary with developmental stage,
anatomical location, and environmental context. Like the
problem of sequencing the human genome, the multidimensional
nature of protein functions in time, space and context constitutes
one of the `big` problems in biomedical research. Resolving
this problem is key to revolutionizing health care where
a deep understanding of complex biological systems will lead
to more powerful and specific ways to treat, and perhaps,
even prevent birth defects and adult diseases

Heat Transfer 2010 is the eleventh conference in the well established series on “Advanced Computational Methods and Experimental Measurements in Heat Transfer”. The objective of the series is to provide a forum for presentation and discussion of advanced topics, new approaches and applications of advanced computational methods and experimental measurements to heat and mass transfer problems.
Research and development of computational methods for solving and understanding heat transfer problems continue to be important because heat transfer topics are commonly of a complex nature and different mechanisms such as heat conduction, convection, turbulence, thermal radiation and phase change may occur simultaneously. Typically, applications are found in heat exchangers, gas turbine cooling, turbulent combustions and fires, electronics cooling, melting and solidification. Heat transfer has played a major role in new application fields such as sustainable development and the reduction of greenhouse gases as well as for micro- and nano-scale structures and bio-engineering.

information systems. These are the main knowledge areas that define the
six component conferences, namely: DCNET, ICE-B, OPTICS, SECRYPT, SIGMAP, and WINSYS, which together form the ICETE joint conference. DCNET - Data communication ICE-B - E-business OPTICS - Optical Communication Systems SECRYPT - Security and Cryptography SIGMAP - Signal Processing and Multimedia Applications WINSYS - Wireless Information Networks and Systems
The aim of the conference is to bring together researchers sharing an interest in a variety of aspects of statistics and its applications and offer them a possibility to discuss current developments in these subjects. The format of this meeting will involve plenary talks and sessions with contributed talks.
The conference will mainly focus on a number of topics: estimation, prediction and testing in linear models, robustness of relevant statistical methods, estimation of variance components appearing in linear models, generalizations to nonlinear models, design and analysis of experiments, including optimality and comparison of linear experiments.
The work of young scientists has a special position in the LINSTAT 2010 to encourage and promote them. The best poster as well as the best talk will be chosen. Prizes will be awarded to graduate students or scientists with a recently completed Ph.D. Prize-winning works will be widely publicized and promoted by the conference.
SUSI 2010 is the 11th International Conference in the series on ‘Structures Under Shock and Impact’. The meeting’s chief objective is to attract participants with as wide a spectrum of expertise as possible and working across a broad range of structural problems throughout industry and academia which are subjected to impact and blast loadings.
The shock and impact behaviour of structures is a challenging area, not only because of its obvious timedependent aspects, but also because of the difficulties in specifying the external dynamic loading characteristics and in obtaining the full dynamic properties of materials. Thus it is important to recognise and fully utilise the contributions and understanding emerging from the theoretical, numerical and experimental studies, as well as investigations into material properties under dynamic loading conditions.
This conference will provide a place to exchange recent developments, discoveries and progresses on Nonlinear Science and Complexity. The aims of the conference are to present the fundamental and frontier theories and techniques for modern science and technology, and to stimulate more research interest for exploration of nonlinear science and complexity. The conference will focus on fundamental theories and principles ,analytical and symbolic approaches, computational techniques in nonlinear physical science and nonlinear mathematics.

Currently, a number of institutions across the countries are working to evolve better models to provide collaborative technology services for scholarship by creating shared cyberspace thro expert collaboration, but this is a challenge for the institutions for a number of reasons. In the last few years, the landscape of digital technology applications projects for the various disciplines in humanities, social sciences, and sciences appears induced by many initiatives. For the creation of research clusters, the research community has thousands of databases, websites, local computing clusters, and web-based tools around individual themes, interests and projects. In most cases, these tools and resources are and were created to meet the specific needs of a particular community. In many cases, the funding and support for these critical initiatives is fragile and temporary, and directed in piecemeal fashion. There is a need to provide concerted efforts in building federated digital technologies that will enable the formation of network of digital technologies.
