This educational activity is designed for medical oncologists, infectious disease specialists, hematologists, hospitalists, and other physicians, physicians-in-training, and healthcare professionals interested and/or involved in the care of patients with febrile neutropenia.
Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
Discuss and evaluate the clinical use of prophylactic versus empiric or preemptive therapy of fungal infections in febrile neutropenic patients
Discuss the appropriate selection and practical utilization of replacement antibiotics for therapy of infections caused by resistant bacteria in febrile neutropenic patients
Describe the role of native immunity on susceptibility and severity of infection in patients with febrile neutropenia
Identify and assess management strategies for infections in patients undergoing stem cell transplant from alternative sources and donors
Compare current and emerging therapies in the prevention and management of patients with febrile neutropenia
