Upon completion of this conference, participants will be able to apply the latest advances in the diagnosis, treatment, and clinical skills necessary for the practice of pediatric emergency medicine. Nationally recognized experts will present the latest, cutting-edge clinical techniques based on current research. A variety of methods will be used, including case presentations, evidence-based medicine, literature reviews, and in-depth coverage of the latest clinical controversies. Some of the confernce objectives:
- Appraise current guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of simple, complex febrile seizures and afebrile seizures.
- Discuss controversies for blood tests, lumbar puncture and neuroimaging in the evaluation of children with febrile and afebrile seizures.
- Review EEG, admission and treatment issues for these patients.
- Propose sample protocols for management of these seizures
- Discuss latest guidelines for the emergency management of burns in children.
- Describe the how use of biological dressings in the ED may affect outcome.
- Discuss the indications for therapeutic hypothermia after cardiopulmonary resuscitation in adult patients and data if any, on its use in children including neonates.
- Outline the differences in patient populations that may lead to differences in effectiveness for therapeutic hypothermia (e.g., pediatric versus adult).
- Review a sample protocol for the institution of therapeutic hypothermia in pediatric patients after cardiopulmonary arrest in the ED.
