Two of the most important processes of change in Southeast Asia are industrialisation and urbanisation. Singapore, Manila, Bangkok and Jakarta - all with major ports and coastal development are now ‘mega-cities’ by world standards.The increasing scarcity of land, increased trading and waterfront activity have led to a number of coastal engineering and management projects in Asia, including expansion of existing ports by government bodies and private companies.
