The Australian Journal of Mining is pleased to
announce the upcoming Land Access for Mining and Petroleum
Conference. The forum is being developed in partnership with
the Department of Employment, Economic Development and Innovation
(DEEDI) Queensland and will be held at the Brisbane Marriott Hotel on
August 16th and 17th, 2010.
The event is set in light of the raft
of reforms to land access management, strategic cropping land, coal
seam gas regulation in Queensland and major legal precedents in other
states such as the Supreme Court ruling on BHP’s Caroona tenement. As a
consequence of these rapid movements, a high level of confusion reigns
in industry and we hope that this forum might help to provide clarity
and insight on land access issues.
This new conference will
provide a channel for key regulators, land access managers, landholder
groups and legal experts to share information and strategies for dealing
with all aspects of tenure approval and management.
The WA Transport infractructure Summit is the transport event for the latest update on freight and passenger transport projects in Western Australia.

IFIP Conference on Biologically-Inspired Collaborative Computing
A new paradigm in computing is to take many simple autonomous objects or
agents and let them jointly perform a complex task, without having the
need for centralized control. In this paradigm, these simple objects
interact locally with their environment using simple rules. An
important inspiration for this model is nature itself, where many such
systems can be found. Applications include optimization algorithms,
communications networks, scheduling and decision making, supply-chain
management, and robotics. There are many disciplines involved in making
such systems work: from artificial intelligence to energy aware
systems. Often these disciplines have their own field of focus, have
their own conferences, or only deal with specialized subproblems (e.g.
swarm intelligence, biologically inspired computation, sensor networks).
7th
IFIP Conference on Distributed and Parallel Embedded Systems
Embedded Systems build the key technological components of all kinds of
complex technical systems, ranging from telecommunications devices to
automobiles, aircraft and even complete production lines.
Traditionally, such embedded control systems have been implemented in a
monolithic, centralized manner, but distributed solutions have
steadily been gaining popularity. In a distributed setup, the control
task is carried out by a number of controllers distributed over the
entire system and interconnected as a network by communication
components such as field buses.

1st
IFIP Intl. Conference on Critical Information Infrastructure Protection in
conjunction with WCC 2010
At the 50th anniversary of the formation of the International
Federation for Information Processing the simple fact that national
economies and international commerce alike have become totally dependent
upon the reliable and secure operation of national and global
information infrastructures has been accepted. From the early days of
1960, with a perceived competitive advantage through computer usage, to
today’s acknowledgement of total dependence upon computer systems and
integrated data networks on a global scale, the realization that the
emerging digital economy in nation states as well as national security
and societal well-being depend upon necessary critical information
infrastructures has been accepted by governments and all enterprises
worldwide. In particular the theme of CIP acknowledges that all basic or
national critical infrastructures themselves, from electrical power
systems to telecommunications structures to water/sewerage systems and
so on, whether owned and operated by the public or private sector,
depend fundamentally upon a national and critical information
infrastructure. On a global scale the evidence is clear that nations as
well as international enterprises of all natures in a global economy
have moved to address this reality through relevant draft legislation,
regulations, industry codes and the like. At the same time there is
recognition at the United Nations level that the rapid and almost
unchecked rise of cybercrime is a reality. At the same time there is
also recognition that imperatives for national defence have moved into
cyberspace as well. Even topics related to the position of information
assurance at national levels; the political, ethical and legal position
related to the use of “information operations” and appropriate responses
to detected “cyber-attack”; the problems of “hardening” national
information infrastructures through public sector leadership and like
themes are now topics discussed in the open media globally. The topic of
CIIP, NIIP, NCI, or whatever term is used to describe this change, of
necessity brings together the skills of computers scientists and
mathematicians, engineers, information technologists and others to
combine with the vital efforts of legal professionals, public and
defence policy researchers, social scientists and psychologists,
political scientists and related disciplines to address a common goal to
provide effective and acceptable solutions to the growing threats.
CIIP 2010 is an opportunity to address current thinking and research
in these vital global concerns from an international perspective. The
conference presents a unique opportunity, at a time when nationally,
regionally and internationally associated policies and legal regimes are
under development, to both ponder those activities as well as to
provide research leadership at both technical and policy levels.
2nd
IFIP Entertainment Computing Symposium,
New Frontiers for Entertainment Computing
In the 21st century we are getting into the era of "Cultural Computing"
where computers would be able to handle specific forms and human
characteristics that hide behind each culture. In this symposium we
want to introduce and discuss still unveiled possibilities of Cultural
Computing which would analyze and visualize substantial cultural issues
such as sensitivity, memory, spirituality, storytelling, racial
characteristics, etc. that have not been treated in computer science
and engineering so far. There are various possibilities in this area.
From art point of view, Cultural Computing could go beyond the present
media art by treating various kinds of cultural issues. From technology
aspect, it would open up a new area in computer technologies that so
far have been only treating the digitization of cultural
heritages/contents to preserve them. The 2nd IFIP Entertainment
Computing Symposium attempts to focus this emerging and challenging
area by bring various fields together and explore boundaries and new
frontiers. This symposium will be a single track, highly selective set
of presentations and discussions of visionary concepts, advanced
technology, interactive demonstrations/installations, etc.

The Australian Bulk Handling Awards recognize the high-flyers and achievers in the bulk and powder handling industries. From nominations submitted by Australian bulk and powder handlers, an independent panel of judges will select winners and commendations across eight categories of award.
This will be the 3rd meeting of this kind, following the successful 1st Conference on Fixed Combination in the Treatment of Hypertension and Dyslipidemia, which took place in Budapest, Hungary from February 7 - 10, 2008 and attracted over 800 participants, and the 2nd International Conference on Fixed Combination in the Treatment of Hypertension, Dyslipidemia and Diabetes Mellitus which will take place in Valencia, Spain on December 10-12, 2009 this year and is expected to have over 1000 delegates.
In clinical medicine we are moving away from classing hypertension, hypercholesterolemia and hyperglycemia as individual risk factors and are instead recognizing them as continuous disease processes that interact with each other and if present in combination can multiply the risk of vascular disease. Fixed combination drug therapy is playing a very important role in addressing not only these individual continuous processes but vascular disease as a whole.
As more and more fixed drug combinations are reaching the market and proving their effectiveness in randomized controlled trials and in large multicenter studies many patients already benefit from fixed drug combinations in the fields of hypertension, dyslipidemia and diabetes. These include use of fewer pills with low individual drug doses that lead to better tolerability, convenience, and thus ensure better compliance.
The benefit to us as health care providers is the ease of administration, increased compliance and often lower cost to our goverments.
Leading clinicians and scientists from around the world will contribute to a cutting edge program that aims to capture the scope and depth of the exciting field of fixed combination Drug therapy.
This meeting will bring together experts in the fields of internal medicine, cardiology, endocrinology, nephrology as well as primary care physicians and general practicioners and allow them to discuss the role of fixed combination in the treatment of hypertension, dyslipidemia and diabetes mellitus as well as learn about new combinations and future research directions in this field.

With current high oil prices and the forecast of Australia`s energy
consumption to increase by about 2% a year in the next 25 years, there
is the need of further developing alternative fuels and encourage the
production of liquid fuels from gas fields and coalfieds.
This
has led to a renew interest in coal as an alternative feedstock for the
production of transport fuels and chemicals. By using coal conversion
technologies, such as coal-to-liquids, the vast coal resources in
Australia could become an important alternative to crude oil. In
April 2009 the Minister for Resources and Energy, Martin Ferguson AM
MP, has launched the world`s first coal-to-liquids demonstration plant
to use Underground Coal Gasification (UCG) technology.
Australia is coal and gas rich, with hundreds of years of reserves.
Technologies that convert coal and gas to ultra-clean diesel and jet
fuel have the potential to replace Australia`s declining oil reserves
and make us self-sufficient in liquid transport fuels. The
Australian Government is encouraging the development of coal-to-liquids
in Australia through its election commitment to use the $500 million National Low Emissions Coal Fund to support projects generating minimal carbon emissions which utilise Australia’s extensive coal resources. The
5th annual Coal to Liquids and Gas to Liquids Conference will explore
the prospects for UCG, coal liquefaction, commercial advantages,
environmental issues and a review of some of the projects in Australia
and overseas. An update on GTL will also be included.
Snapshot of the Mining Export Infrastructure Current Environment
“The
findings of the first ever audit of Australia’s critical minerals
export chain suggest that Australia’s export infrastructure has
suffered a “cancer of neglect” and is in a “critical state” of inadequacy, according to Minerals Council of Australia’s (MCA) executive officer Mitchell Hooke.” Australian Journal of Mining (AJM), June 2009 The Situation…
For the past 5-10years, the mining industry within Australia has been facing export delays due to bottlenecks within the rail supply chain and capacity constraints at major ports.
This creates an inability in the mining supply chain to match the rate
at which mining producers extract minerals and meet their contract
tonnages. The Challenges…
Like most industries, the Global Financial Crisis has affected the mining industry, with public infrastructure project funding placed under question and private funding for infrastructure at an all-time squeeze. The Objective…
Addressing and ensuring these bottlenecks within mining export infrastructure are a priority, will mean that Australia
is well positioned, as the global economy recovers, to take advantage
of the many opportunities and benefits that will emerge.

The General Practitioner Clinical Education Conference (GPce) is Australia`s premier primary care one day conference up-skilling with high-quality clinical education designed for GPs by GPs.
Why GP clinical education? It is well known that general
practitioners are time poor. As the shortage of GPs continues to
increase, the amount of available hours for education, either within or
outside of the practice continues to decrease. The GP Clinical Education
has grown from the need for GPs to keep up-to-date with their medical
education, across a broad range of topics, all within a short space of
time. Therefore in acknowledgement of this, the GP Clinical Education is
run in Perth, Brisbane and Adelaide.
In view of the diversity of papers
presented at EXCON’08 the International Advisory Committee decided to
extend the full title of EXCON conferences from “International
Conference on Excitonic Processes in Condensed Matter” to “International
Conference on Excitonic and Photonic Processes in Condensed and Nano
Materials”. And following the tradition of EXCON series, EXCON will
also maintain its focus on both experimental and theoretical topics on
current research in excitonic and photonic processes in nanostructure,
organic and inorganic condensed materials.
EXCON`10 is expected to provide
an interdisciplinary forum for materials scientists, photo-physicists,
photo-chemists and industry researchers to discuss novel and new
results in their fields of research.
Presentations on the following but not
exclusive research topics will be included in EXCON`10:
Quantum confined excitons and low dimensional systems
Excitons in nanostructures
Single-exciton studies, micro-spectroscopy of excitons
Photo-biological processes
Excitonic electroluminescence and photoluminescence
Scintillators and phosphors
Frenkel excitons in molecular aggregates, energy transfer
