Although
the practice area of international commercial arbitration has
flourished within the last decade due to the emergence of a global
economy, the existence and availability of training for individuals
interested in serving as international arbitrators remains extremely
limited. The few programmes that exist are either available only to
individuals appointed to panels of arbitrators maintained by arbitral
institutions, or are extremely expensive and involve weeks of training,
thus making them impractical for most working professionals. Accordingly, the ICC Institute launches its second annual ICC Institute Masterclass for Arbitrators.
This training will provide participants with an opportunity to
reinforce their knowledge of the fundamentals of international
commercial arbitration and to learn about the latest developments and
best practices related to serving as an international arbitrator. In
keeping with its commitment to excellence, the ICC has recruited some
of the world’s leading scholars and practitioners as faculty for this
important event. Participants will have the rare opportunity to learn
firsthand from these leading practitioners and to develop helpful
contacts with arbitration practitioners from around the world. The
course will consist of presentations and interactive discussions using
mock cases designed to hone participants’ understanding of critical
theoretical concepts while also emphasizing many practical aspects
involved in conducting an international arbitration.
Attendees should understand that the objective of this course is solely
to provide training with respect to serving as an arbitrator and
completion of the course will not result in students being awarded any
type of certification or accreditation by the ICC In terms of their
fitness to serve as international arbitrators.
This
advanced level training is designed primarily for practitioners who
have significant experience in international commercial arbitration as
counsel, but who have little or no experience as arbitrators. Attendees
are expected to have already mastered the essentials of arbitral
proceedings, as these will not be reviewed during the Masterclass. Please
note that a Curriculum Vitae is requested upon registration as
registrations will be accepted according to the candidate’s experience.

Multi-disciplinary professional gathering for the diagnostic, prevention and treatment of surgical infections
A post-operative infection is a very serious surgical complication, particularly in the field of osteoarticular surgery. It occurs after placement of joint prostheses (hip, knee, shoulder as a result of osteoarthritis) and the use of material made of metal (usually in the case of fractures).
Treatment entails complex multi-disciplinary care (surgeons, anaesthetists, infectious diseases specialists, microbiologists). These treatments are long and costly. The end result is often major functional, familial and professional sequelae, or even death. In other words, prevention of these infections linked to care is fundamental. An enlightened growth of awareness of these infectious accidents by all the stakeholders, including the patients, is required

Colorectal cancer is one of the most common types of malignancy and much progress has been made in recent years in the understanding of the biology and treatment of this disease. These developments concern almost the full research area including genetics, biology, pathology/prognostic markers, surgery, screening, systemic treatment, radiotherapy and imaging. This implies that both pre-clinical and clinical research is becoming much more multidisciplinary oriented.
The European Multidisciplinary Colorectal Cancer Congress (EMCCC) is the European conference that truly provides a platform for in-depth multidisciplinary interaction among the various research areas involved.
The Dutch Colorectal Cancer Group (DCCG) has taken the initiative for the EMCCC in 2001. The conference in 2010 builds upon four previous successful multidisciplinary conferences on colorectal cancer which were held in The Netherlands in 2001 and 2004 and in Germany in 2006 and 2008, visited by more than 500 participants from more than 30 countries.
The conference will have separate sections on Surgery, Medical Oncology, Radio Oncology, Pathology, Imaging, Gastroenterology, Genetics and Biology. The format of the conference consist of oral and poster presentations, keynote lectures and interactive sessions between the various disciplines.

The Development of Regulatory Authorities and of the Process of Post Marketing Surveillance in developing countries Vaccination is a very powerful public health tool for preventing many infectious diseases. The protection obtained in vaccination programs can be measured both at individual level and community level. As for drugs, the vaccines need to be registered and licensed by regulatory and health authorities before vaccination recommendations. The evaluation of the vaccine to be licensed is focusing on 4 major aspects: quality, efficacy, safety and post-marketing surveillance. As the last item is implemented since several years in the Western Countries, the Developing Countries are still working on better pharmacovigilance systems. Recently risk management plans have been implemented both in Europe and North America, significantly increasing the safety activities in a pro-active manner.
Manufacturers have to meet the requirements set by regulatory agencies for both registration of vaccines and post-marketing surveillance. Although most developed countries have a national regulatory authority, with two forefront agencies (EMEA for EU countries and FDA for the USA), important differences exist between different regions of the world regarding the requirements for registration of vaccines and pharmaco-vigilance. Developing countries have a broad range of regulations regarding both the registration and the pharmaco-vigilance systems.
The objective of this meeting is to bring together experts from the regulatory agencies, the vaccines manufacturers and vaccines program (EPI) from both Developed and Low to Middle Income Countries (LMIC), aiming at:
-
Reviewing[n1] the present status on the role of regulatory agencies in relation to the benefit-risk ratio of vaccines (clinical trials and pharmaco-vigilance) in both western and low to middle income countries; with a discussion on how vaccines are evaluated on the different parts of the dossier: Quality, Non-Clinical, Efficacy, Safety and Risk Management Plan.
-
Discussing the response of vaccine manufacturers to increasing demands of regulatory agencies in terms of vaccines safety and effectiveness. Indeed once a vaccine is licensed, it is extremely important to measure and follow how the vaccine will behave in real world conditions.
-
Reviewing the international and regional actions for developing/strengthening regulatory authorities in Low to Middle Income Countries and the involvement of the WHO, western regulatory agencies and the manufacturers.
-
Trying to identify the gaps in the regulatory systems in low to middle income countries.
-
Trying to identify further actions to be taken to help filling these gaps.

We are pleased to announce the Second International Workshop on interim PET in lymphoma, to be held in
Menton (French Riviera) , in April 8-9
th 2010.
The First International Workshop, organized under the auspices of the GELA by Michel Meignan (Créteil, France), Andrea Gallamini (Cuneo, Italy) and Corinne Haioun (Créteil, France) was held in Deauville, France in April 2009. The aim was twofold : to reach a consensus on criteria for interim PET interpretation in lymphoma and to launch international validation studies (IVS) in an attempt to validate these rules in Hodgkin (HL) and Diffuse Large B-Cell Lymphoma (DLCBL). The report of this workshop is available in Leukemia & Lymphoma 2009;50:1267-60.
In Menton, more than 50 experts in the field will participate to the closed meeting on Thursday and will attend the open session on Friday. During the open session, the invited international experts, Nuclear Medicine physicians and Haematologists, will present the “state of the art”, moving from the pioneer studies up to the last achievements, and will focus on a number of “hot” and unsettled issues in interim PET in lymphoma. The clinical trials that are running worldwide at this writing aimed to assess the role of an interim-PET response-adapted strategy will be shared with the audience, as well as the preliminary results of the IVS on HL and DLCBL. The experts will also discuss the validity of the Deauville consensus criteria.
We hope to see you and share with you a fruitful meeting.

Once again, IJAS proudly hosts an end of the academic year program in the midst of pristine nature and ancient history, in a conference that is both relaxing and intellectually stimulating. From the surrounding aromatic purple fields of lavender, to the ancient town of Nimes steeped in Roman vestiges, our conference sets out on a four day journey of academic tours and conference presentations launched from Aix-en-Provence, the former capital of Provence and the birthplace of Paul Cezanne ("We live in a rainbow of chaos").
Life goes on beyond IJAS as well, and delegates will find a whole slew of events and activities in the region. Some may want to take a 22-minute car ride from Aix-en-Provence to Marseilles, the crossroads of the Provenחal tradition and the exotic influences from the Middle East and its souk-like markets. Others may want to invest their free time in culinary delights, savoring the bouillabaisse and other authentic local dishes, and sipping the region`s finest wines along cobbled streets and perched villages.
The Provence is the cradle of art. Monet, Renoir, Dufy, Bonnard, Signac, and van Gogh borrowed the Provenחal landscape and inspiration for their work. Matisse and Picasso spent a good part of their life in Provence, an open-air Musיe des Beaux Arts.

will bring together mathematicians, statisticians, modellers, biologists,
epidemiologists, engineers, physicians, computer scientists, public health
officials and others who are interested in sharing views and experiences on
the use of mathematics in a broad variety of medical areas. The goal is not
to present highly technical papers. Instead, participants will step back from
their day-to-day activities and reflect on the impact of their research: how
and to what extent do mathematical results "trickle down" to the
front lines of the fight against disease and make a real difference to the
"end-users" and their patients? (for example through tangible benefits
of improved cancer therapies or positive global health effects of infectious
disease modelling). Medical imaging, cardiology, oncology, pharmacology, epidemiology
and other fields of medicine benefit from the use of mathematical/statistical
methods and will be represented at the workshop. English will be the working
language.

As a worldwide scientific congress in the field of electrophysiology
and cardiac techniques, Cardiostim gathers more than 5 000 scientists,
including the most distinguished ones from all over the world.
Time has then arrived to upgrade the form of Cardiostim, by offering programs that review current knowledge in the various domains of our specialty, while extending its application to the real world of day-to-day practice.
Therefore,
the majority of structured programs will include representative
clinical cases to illustrate the presentation. In many sessions, the
audience’s opinion will be probed by an automatic voting system. Other sessions will strictly be educational, returning from patient records to basic electrophysiology, and from data stored in memory to device functions.
Finally seasoned participants will find sessions where complex electrophysiologic recordings will be presented, prompting dynamic discussions, while the RETAC group will present the potential contributions expected from new instrumentation and devices.

Sleep problems are among the most common health-related complaints of older persons, however many physicians are not trained to recognize sleep disorders in this population or they assume that sleep disorders are an inevitable part of aging.
Sleep disorders are frequently associated with cardiac disease, stroke, cognitive impairment, Alzheimer’s disease, falls, increased iatrogenesis and impaired quality of life. Quality of sleep is tied to quality of life and, indeed, to the genesis of disease. Sleep may play a salient role in increasing vulnerability to illness and disability. Assessing and managing sleep disorders in aged care must be a priority and deserves more attention.
To educate physicians, health care providers and researchers about the latest advances in geriatric sleep medicine IASRG is pleased to present this innovative, international and interdisciplinary meeting on 25 and 26 June 2010 in Lyon, France. This meeting will focus on diagnostic and therapeutic processes that have, or will have, real clinical use in the elderly. The expert faculty will present how best to implement the main diagnostic tools and therapeutic strategies in your clinical practice.
With developments occurring in geriatrics and sleep medicine every day, it is important that physicians, health care professionals and researchers are given the opportunity to meet, interact and share their experiences. We hope that you will enjoy your experience at Aging and Sleep 2010 and will be able to both renew and initiate relationships with colleagues from around the world who share your interests.

For 50 years, biology has witnessed dazzling developments in medicine. It has always harnessed technological breakthroughs in order to offer patients and staff physicians more and more effective means of research. In 2009, through a very ambitious reform that will prepare it to face a new stage in its prodigious development, the profession will show that it is still able to evolve and reassess its methods.
JIB will once again make it possible for you to remain competitive by offering you contact with all your suppliers unsurpassed by any other trade show, high quality conferences on the major theme `the Biology of Cancers`, and a tremendous platform for exchanges with your fellow members and representatives.
The 54th International Biology Days (JIB) will be held at the CNIT - Paris la Defense on November 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th 2009 (November 3rd is dedicated solely to the scientific congress).
Combining a growing three-day trade fair (Nov. 4th to 6th) and a top-level four-day scientific congress (Nov. 3rd to 6th), JIB brings together in a single place every year a growing number of hospital and private sector biologists, companies, researchers, technicians, and interns In 2008, close to 10,000 attended (23% from abroad) to get information, share their experience, and discover the technical innovations of 178 exhibitors (suppliers of material and reagents for laboratories, computer engineering and maintenance companies, service providers, and associations, etc.).
The BioMI pavilion, Biologie Moleculaire Initiative (Molecular Biology Initiative), created in 2008, is continuing its development, and this year to gain a better understanding of the scientific and medical potential of nanotechnologies JIB is creating for the first time Nano in Bio.
Hugely successful in the past, with a growth rate since 2007 of 39%, the Congress will gather the top-level French, British and American specialists dealing with a compelling main theme: The Biology of Cancer .
Furthermore, to promote scientific production, JIB has for the first time issued a Call for Posters around a panel of experts and is organising the Best Poster Prize.

Welcome to the XXth European Days of the French Society of Cardiology. This event was created in 1991 by Professor Mireille Brochier, and this year marks its 20th edition. To celebrate this anniversary, this year’s conference will be very special indeed. On this occasion, a series of “20th anniversary” sessions will give us the opportunity to report not only on the breakthroughs of the last 20 years, but more importantly, on the state-of-the art of cardiology in all its dimensions and disciplines (cardiology, rhythmology and stimulation, heart failure, interventional cardiology, prevention, and imaging). These sessions also aim to design the cardiology of the future through sessions specifically orientated towards the forthcoming innovations in diagnostic and imaging methods, medical equipment, and medication. These sessions reflect the European Days’ ambition to be at the cutting-edge of scientific and medical progress.

The
first Christophe Mérieux `Trends in Virology` Conference was held on
24 to 26 June 2007 at Les Pensières, near Annecy, France. This
meeting, instigated by Doctor Christophe Mérieux, was the first of a
new series of scientific meetings organized every two years.
The
scientific community is currently confronted with a complex, rapidly
changing epidemiological environment, with the emergence of unknown
viruses and the reemergence of diseases that were thought to be
controlled. The battle to control these diseases requires international
mobilization and the sharing of all knowledge. Against this kind of
background, the aim of the Christophe Mérieux Conference is to
establish where in the world these recent changes have taken place.
The
experts present different approaches set up for identifying and
understanding the multiplication mechanisms of these viruses,
epidemiological monitoring, diagnosis, prevention and treatment.
This
conference is an opportunity to share the multidisciplinary approaches
that should enable progress in the struggle to control infectious
diseases and develop a global approach to these issues, from
fundamental research on therapeutic approaches.

n fact,
SIMESITEM now attracts the international
leaders from the major museographic trades: audio guides, ticketing,
collection management, window design, virtual imaging, etc.
The rendezvous for the top echelons of cultural site management
The service providers and equipment suppliers who exhibit at SIMESITEM
find the right audience. In fact, they meet the managers of the biggest
"classic" cultural institutions such as museums, libraries and archives
but also – and increasingly - mediatheques, châteaux, gardens and
performing arts with film and festival professionals. And the regional
cultural administrations are generally well-represented too.
The SIMESITEM show is a unique event, where players
from diverse cultural activities converge. They share common goals and
are not boxed in to their individual specialities. A good example of
this is the creation of the Trophées ATALANTE , in collaboration with Film France.
These are awarded to managers of cultural sites (museums, châteaux
etc.) and local authorities for the beneficial relationships they
develop with film professionals from cinema and television.
Through its conferences and workshops and by gathering together the broadest spectrum of human and technical skills, SIMESITEM
is a measure of the spectacular evolution experienced by the big
cultural institutions, major contributors to the status and economy of
a country.

Dear colleagues,
It is a tremendous honor for all geneticists to Strasbourg to receive the 5th Sitting of Human Genetics from 28 to 30 January 2010.
The soul Rhine, Europe`s heart and mind from Alsace will seduce you.
Our region has earned its position by nature and history at the
crossroads of cultures and traditions of Franco-German now become the
cement of the dynamics of the Upper Rhine region.
History of Medicine at Strasbourg and its many famous people is
intimately linked to that of Alsace. Our city is rich with a long
university tradition that finds its roots in the humanism of the
Renaissance with Gutenberg and the earliest works including medicine.
The academic history and medicine is marked by famous figures that
illustrate the alternation Germanic and French from our past: JF.
Lobstein, pioneer of pathology who described the "sick men of Glass;
Friedreich Daniel Von Recklinghausen professor of pathology of the
Kaiser Wilhelm Universität of Strasbourg where i ldécrivit the first
case of neurofibromatosis and hemochromatosis; surgeon Otto Wilhelm
Madelung dyschondroplasie with the radio-ulnar. The student`s most
illustrious of this alternation is certainly Albert Schweitzer,
physician, theologian and Nobel Peace ... Let`s recall also that Louis
Pasteur was a professor at the Faculty of Sciences from 1848 to 1854.
For 50 years, genetic research is particularly developed in Strasbourg,
from the basics on the various model organisms to human genetics and
medicine, and more recently with the genetic mouse model for human
disease.
Our city and our region have other advantages. Traces of the past
have profoundly marked the city whose epicenter is the cathedral with
its inescapable single arrow. Many museums, traditional, historical,
artistic quench your thirst for culture after reading the various
historic districts as the picturesque district of "Little France"
(medieval site where patients infected with syphilis ... "bad French"
... were hospitalized ). European capital, our city is proud to help
build Europe in all its dimensions as reflected in the European
district facing the future with its prestigious institutions you will
discover. Finally, the culinary arts is a cult practiced especially in
winstubs (wine bars), many in the old city, combining traditional
cuisine and wine tasting. We extend our warmest greetings of welcome to
all for a memorable 5th edition of Focus on Human Genetics in
Strasbourg rich in science and culture in Alsace and European!

Jean-Louis Mandel, President of the Scientific Committee
