The 10th Annual Rachmiel Levine Symposium, entitled Advances in Diabetes Biology, Immunology and Cell Therapy, will be held March 14-17, 2010 at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, Nevada. The program will cover topics in islet biology, including beta cell regeneration, and in islet immunology, including new advances in understanding autoimmunity, role of inflammation in the genesis of disease and current and future strategies for immune modulation as treatment modalities. In addition, the meeting will cover topics linking pathophysiology of type 1 and type 2 diabetes and new insight into metabolic effects of bariatric surgery, metabolic changes in pregnancy, and closed loop system development.
The meeting will also highlight the results of recent diabetes clinical trials and conduct technical workshops in islet biology and include a poster session, oral session, debate sessions, and a keynote dinner lectureship.

Lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) and pelvic floor disorders are
managed by both urologists and gynecologists, each of whom brings a
distinct perspective to patient care. This program provides a unique
forum for urologists and gynecologists to share their insights and
experiences. Virtually all of the surgical techniques, from “gold
standards” to “cutting edge” are presented by world-renowned experts
who utilize them in their daily practice.
The curriculum includes didactic sessions on the anatomy &
physiology of micturition, incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse,
neurogenic bladder, overactive bladder, and pelvic pain syndromes.
Separate break-out sessions for urologists and gynecologists are
designed to educate each about the basics of diagnosis and treatment of
common conditions in the other’s specialty. The remainder of the
seminar is devoted to detailed slide and video presentations, panel
discussions and debates on the surgical treatment of incontinence,
pelvic organ prolapse, fistulas, ureteral injury and urethral
diverticulum.
At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:
Incorporate into clinical practice a multi-disciplinary
(urology/gynecology) approach to diagnosing and treating women with
LUTS and/or pelvic floor disorders;
Discuss and compare the various treatment options for LUTS and
pelvic floor disorders, including behavioral, pharmacologic and
surgical.
Explain the associated risks and success rates of these modalities.
Healthcare
reform is front and center on the national agenda; and this meeting
will explore its implications for radiology and radiologists. However,
this new administration is one challenge facing our specialty. Turf
wars are intensifying, hospital administrators are becoming more
demanding, and commoditization and corporatization are harsh realities.
Important issues such as
understanding and effectively using principles of negotiations,
preparing practices for reimbursement pressures and developing
strategies for dealing with turf battles will be explored. New concepts
including pay-for-performance, physician extenders and the new economic
realities will be discussed.
The times ahead will be more
difficult for radiologists; and, this course is structured to present
practical solutions to the problems facing the specialty. The
comprehensive course syllabus should provide substantial take-home
information that registrants can use as a resource for improving this
structure and operations of their practices. The course will be
interactive, utilizing the audience response system to provide
immediate feedback. The registrants will be able to participate in the
popular socio-economic data project, comparing their practice with
those of the other attendees from throughout the country. The faculty
