FAQs about hotels in Cape Town

Cool, Colorful Cape

Between mountains and beaches, the 2nd largest city in South Africa mixes history, resilient modernity, and a typical laidback African character. From the top of Table Mountain to the colourful Bo Kaap quarter, and from the Victoria & Albert Waterfront to the modern business district, Cape Town blends multicultural influences and beautiful nature.

Known as Kaapstad in Afrikaans, its sunny weather and mild temperatures make it a perfect place to enjoy the large number of beaches that surround it. From Sunset Beach to Hout Bay, and from Simon’s Town to Gordon Bay, this city offers variety that suits all tastes. Whale and dolphin watching is a popular activity in False Bay.

Located on the Cape of Good Hope, the city was founded in 1652 by a Dutch trading company as a way-station for ships travelling to the East Indies. With the settlement process, all sorts of foreign plants were introduced, including the grapes in the famous Cape Winelands District, just outside of Cape Town.

Cape Town’s history does have some darker periods, and some of its memorable places from this time deserve to be visited: Robben Island jail, the City Hall from which Nelson Mandela gave his first public speech, and the statues of the 4 South African Nobel Peace Prize winners on the V&A Waterfront.

The waterfront area, excellent for tourism and shopping, so many trips from bus to boat and helicopter rides. All the popular eateries and the best restaurants are here too. Easy parking and very cheap to use. Red hop on hop off bus tours to various outlaying districts and places is a must. Make time for a visit castle and watch, Changing of the Guard ceremony, quite educational and light hearted.

So much to see and do, 12 days were just not enough.

So much to see and do, 12 days were just not enough. The wine tours were exeptional, the cable cart wow. The paragliding exilerating. Hores rides along the beach in Noordhoek and dont overlook the Deep South distilery in Kommetjie aswell as the Blue flag restaurant at Imhof Farm. The bakery there also bakes the most delicious breads, tarts and cakes. We travelled to Cape Agulhas and worked our way back along the coastline. Struis Baai, Gans Baai, De Kelder's, Betties bay, Franschhoek, Paarl, Wellington, Stellenbosch. Please do visit Zorg Vliet wine farm. Oh my word their wines are most exquisite, creamy, smooth on the tongue and the pairing platters to die for. The V&A waterfront was a little disappointing. We visited the local leather factory in Goodwood and had belts custom made for the guys at home and hubby. Kalkbaai, Simonstown, Glencairn, Fish Hoek & Muizenberg was beautiful quant towns each with their own rich history. Not forgetting Hout bay.

It's easy to be a tourist in Cape Town, even if you live there. There is always a new adventure waiting and the endlessly beautiful views never get old. In Fish Hoek, Fish Hoek Fisheries is always a treat especially after a long day that didn't include a dinner plan. We discovered a few gems - Jazz at Simon's Town Golf Club on the first Sunday of every month, and a delightful pond-side tea garden just past Scarborough called The Scone Shack. But be prepared to go with the flow and take a stroll around the garden to find your waiter if you're feeling forgotten. It's a place to slow right down and breathe because the scones and charmingly eclectic teapots and cups are well worth waiting for.

Cape Town is just the most wonderful city for visitors and tourists. I love the good condition that the major public areas are in. The roads are in great condition, well marked and sign-posted. Signage is around for everything. While it is a busy city, I always find it very easy to get around in. There is so much to do and see and some world class shopping malls. It is always sad when I need to leave Cape Town, I can never have too much time there.
