The only capital city in the world with a ski world cup race, Zagreb sits over 394 ft above sea level and has typical Central European architecture of cobblestone streets, impressive public buildings and well laid out landscaped grounds.
Built around two medieval settlements with the Upper Town (Gornji Grad) being its core, the city skilfully combines modern attractions with well-established favorites. Start your day at the Museum of Contemporary Art, then make a stop at the Zagreb Cathedral or make a wish at the Old Town Gate. The locals say it will be granted!
For a more relaxing time, Zagreb has two lakes - Jarun and Bundek - both offering recreational facilities and hosting festivals and events. After having fun in the sun, you might want to hit the shopping at the colorful markets and small boutiques selling local crystal, ceramics and cravats.
To get a different perspective on the city, climb Medvenica, a mountain over 3280 ft tall overlooking Zagreb, and admire the views while sipping famous Croatian wine. And while you’re there, don’t forget to visit the Medvedgrad fortress.
Zagreb Airport is just 11 miles and a short bus ride from the city. Whether you’re looking for an elegant hotel, classic apartment or cozy hostel, Booking.com has about 80 accommodations options for you to choose from!
The city center is in good condition. But, if you decide to go outside of city center borders you will se a lot of garbage everywhere... apparently, as I was informed, it is due to the new mayer's orders on how to dispose trash and, obviously, it is not working... Hopefully they will solve this issue soon. Otherwise, I love Zagreb. I frequently visit Croatia, I always land in Zagreb and would recommend it to anyone looking for a city escape.

Zagreb is a vibrant blend of history, culture, and modernity. Nestled between the southern slopes of the Medvednica mountain and the banks of the Sava River, Zagreb offers a picturesque setting. Its historic Upper Town (Gornji Grad) is characterized by cobblestone streets, medieval architecture, and landmarks such as St. Mark's Church and the Lotrščak Tower. The Lower Town (Donji Grad) contrasts with a more modern atmosphere, featuring elegant 19th-century buildings, lively squares like Ban Jelačić Square, and cultural institutions like the Croatian National Theatre. Zagreb is known for its green spaces, with parks and gardens providing peaceful retreats amidst the urban bustle. The city also boasts a rich cultural scene, with museums, galleries, theaters, and a thriving café culture. Throughout the year, Zagreb hosts various festivals, events, and markets, showcasing its dynamic spirit and welcoming atmosphere.

Initially finding our way to the Dolac market (it was towards the end of the day so fruit and vegetables were cheaper) was via a bus and then a tram (best to travel with local currency in coins as public transport is very cheap), however as we explored the public transport network via the tram route it was a faster way to travel into and out of the city from where we stayed at m-blok. Catching a bus and tram back to the city to hire a car was seamless on our last day. Getting to and from places is very easy once you know where you're going so a car is unnecessary in Zagreb. You can buy bus/tram tickets at Tsik kiosks located close to public transport or on the bus/tram. Note that most coffee cafe's only sell coffee and not food. We enjoyed food from Pekara Dubravica 'home of the finest snacks'. They have a great chicken salad, three different types of burek and more. We ate at II Secondo (reasonable price and big serves), Burger Bar and Burger and Beer Bar Mrav (cheaper eats and big serves).

If you wanna be welcome ,don't come.
If you wanna be welcome ,don't come. I am saying this as a homegrown Zagrebian. I always feel unwelcomed, and I was born here :)
If you're passing through, by all means.
Foreigners generally like Zagreb, but if you're up for a good time, fun, music, company, just don't come. It's not worth the trip and it's not worth your money. Remember this capital is not treating it's own people well.
Go somewhere where the citizens are respected and foreigners are warmly welcome. Y'all have great stayings and safe journeys!

Zagreb is a great city ,transport very good easy to use and every kiosk sells trams tickets 56cents for 30 mins accross town and can be bought in various mins including a day ticket to travel from early morning to till night . there is a city bus that takes you to the airport for 1.12 euros you get a tram walk a few mins and pick up a bus so can be done cheaply, there is an 8 euro bus journey to/from the bus station and then a tram from there to centar and you know you have arrived as its like a big square with shops and resturants around it and on the right a of square the tourist office. A lot of the Churchs/Cathederal and palaces were not open to the public since the earthquake in 2020 still under repair as are a lot of buildings with minor damages. Lots of resturants to eat every where reasonably priced, the best shopping was in the area around the main train station there is an underground shopping mall and lots to choose from down there. .

The city is an easy city to travel around especially if you are central. Transport is good. The down side is the airport bagage claim, the airport lack of announcements for delayed flights and the fact that places of interest are closed on Easter and Easter Monday.
it was very Nice everything was clean the staff were very polite and always helpful especially:Leo,Dalibor, the hotel manager as well. The location was very nice. There is a train stop nearby as well as a bus stop from where you go 2 stops and you will get to the tram station and from there you can get pretty much anywhere to the city center. You can get a very nice breakfast at the property. The bar is also very nice you can get there awesome beer Karlovačko as well a great coffee and tea.
This hotel has an excellent central city location. It is on a pedestrian only street so be prepared to carry your luggage for 1 or 2 blocks. You have easy walking access to all the downtown attractions. The staff were wonderful. They provided all sorts of useful information/maps and arranged for a taxi to the airport at the end of our stay. The room and bathroom were comfortable and well maintained. Our room had plenty of space and everything was in good condition.
Beautiful new hotel in a lovely peaceful neighbourhood. Rooms are spacious, modern and clean, the entire hotel looks amazing and it’s tastefully decorated. The best part of our stay was also definitely the staff. They are really kind and breakfast is lovely. There is a sauna but we haven’t used it and they have a terrace at the back with a view of Zagreb. If you want a boutique hotel experience and a peaceful stay, this is it.
The location is the best thing about this hotel. It’s in the middle of upper town and you can walk everywhere on foot. And if you need to go further there’s a tram stop a 3min walk away.
The staff a very nice and helpful, and breakfast is included! A great way to start your day!
The beds are comfortable and the shower has good water pressure. Our room was clean, and they cleaned it everyday during our stay.
Their breakfast was fantastic. It was a huge spread wit so much variety of options including Mediterranean specialties. The coffee was very good as well! We also had two dinners there and both meals were very good. This hotel is not downtown but we liked not being in the crowds. It’s an easy Uber to city center. It is very close to the airport which was important. The staff was very friendly and helpful.
Very nice old house with authentic atmosphere. Relatively close and easy to go to the center of the city: it took us 40 min on feet and 12 minutes on a tram on our way back, tram stop is right behind the hotel. Its very comfortable because we didn't have to go to the center by car, its almost impossible to park there.
Very good breakfast, so far the best I have had in hotels.
The best thing about the hotel is its location. Just 200m from a supermarket and a tram stop. The tram takes you right to the city centre, bus or train station within a quarter of an hour. The room and the bathroom are spacious. Breakfasts are also not bad. Besides, the staff is very friendly and the hotel has its own bar with a wide choice of drinks.
Lovely boutique hotel located in the city center within easy walking distance of major sights. Rooms nicely appointed and quiet. Rooms either look toward the street to to alley so inquire about room location before booking. The staff is very friendly. Highly recommend.
Clean, comfortable, quite room with everything needed for a few days stay. Kind and helpful staff. The hotel is very close to the buss station therefore convenient to reach the airport. Around 15-20 minutes walk from the city center which was also convenient for me.
Very modern boutique hotel super clean and close to main bus station. Excellent breakfast. (Note: We stayed at Sofitel Athens airport after this and paid double the price and it wasn't as good as Hotel 9.) Antonia on reception was excellent and helped us a lot.
This hotel is located in a quiet residential area, an easy tram ride away to the city centre. The housekeeping team here were top class as were the guys on reception. I had a very comfortable though small single room. Great value stay for a solo traveller.
An excellent fit for those that like boutique hotels, as opposed to big hotels and hotel chains.
Great design and interior, the main city center is just a few minutes by foot away. Spacious and modern rooms with balconies overlooking the green garden
You`ll get value for money. Perfect location . Close to city center. No need to go anyway by car. Good breakfast. Quick check in & check out. Big central parking house near to the hotel, not cheap but with free parking slots.
Very modern and clean hotel in the city center. Breakfast buffet was excellent and included in the room rate
We also had dinner there on 2 nights! Excellent food for good value.
Location is perfect, you can reach everywhere in city center by short walk, hotel is clean and tidy, breakfast was good enough, we liked the welcoming chocolates as well
