 The NMBA looks forward to seeing you in San Diego, November 6 9 for their 31st annual conference.  This year we return to the West coast, where the wonderful Rancho Bernardo Inn will play host to our event.

Your conference committee, chaired by Bill Otto and Jackie Forese, has been working over the past couple of months to put together a dynamic program, and below is a sneak peek of what we have lined up (subject to change):

Dean Brenner: Chairman of the Olympic Sailing Committee, Dean is a recognized expert in persuasive communication. He is an accomplished executive coach, a dynamic public speaker, a published author, and an Olympic-caliber athlete.  He has coached front line professionals on how to present and communicate in ways that are both powerful and enhance their organization s brand, and he possesses a global perspective, on business and life. He has spoken on six continents, traveled to more than 20 countries and has raced Olympic sailboats in 15 countries. He has studied as a graduate student in Europe, marched as Team Leader in the Opening Ceremony of the Olympic Games in Beijing, China, and he will be joining us in San Diego!

Gulf Oil Disaster and its Effects on Boating & Lending: How will this country s greatest environmental disaster change boating, fishing and related recreation in the Gulf, and what will its impact be on lenders and the industry that serves them? Greg Proteau, financial columnist and consultant will moderate this panel of experts (John Dane, Founder and CEO of Trinity Yachts, Michael Moore, Moore & Company and Chairman of the International SeaKeepers Society, Carroll Robertson, Senior VP of BoatUS Claims, and an official from the US Coast Guard (invited) involved with Gulf operations).  The group will ponder the impact to collateral value of boats used in the oil zone, effect on warranties, insurability of boats, access to the Gulf for general boating and fishing activities, expected longer-term public expectations and perceptions of recreational and industrial Gulf activities. 

Gina Martin: Our favorite, resident economist returns to enlighten us on what the financial future holds 

**NEW THIS YEAR**: Industry Breakout Sessions: Jim Coburn will moderate interactive panel discussions on the following topics:

Diagnosis of a Marine Fraud:Actual case studies involving fraud in the marine finance arena will be examined by bank professionals with a real "back office" look, in addition to identification of preventative measures.

Short Sale Mechanics and Boat Financing: Short sale dynamics have burst onto the marine finance stage in the past two years. Bank credit and collection professionals will outline the good, the bad and the ugly of real examples in marine loan hardships, modifications and due diligence. You decide which is the right tactic for your bank and our industry.

Business Benefits of Electronic Networking:Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Zoom, YouTube...what`s it all about and how does your company utilize or distinguish between them? Which is best for your marketing plan?  We will provide you with trends,  statistics and initial guidance for your business.

Financial Reform Bill: Now that the Dodd/Frank Financial Reform Bill has been signed into law by President Obama, Don Parkhurst (SunTrust Bank) and his panelists Karen Trostle (Sterling Acceptance) and Jim Stewart (Kotz, Sangster, Wysocki & Berg) will review the elements that may impact your marine lending businesses.

Credit Bureau Panel:  Everything you wanted to know but were afraid to ask!  Chris Renn will head up this panel which includes representatives from all 3 major reporting agencies.  The main focus will be on scoring.  After a short presentation, the discussion will be opened up to the audience for Q&A.
