CSIRO Pre-Breeding Day for Wheat Breeders 2010Wheat breeders are invited to attend this annual forum where CSIRO researchers will discuss their research findings via a series of presentations and Q&A sessions.

This is an annual event hosted by CSIRO Plant Industry.

Researchers will share (via a series of presentations) updates on the following subjects:

  • salinity
  • grain quality
  • rust and root diseases
  • virus resistance breeding
  • yield potential
  • synergies through integrating breeding & management
  • the APPF (Australian Plant Phenomics Facility)
  • field tools to facilitate high-throughput selection
  • QTL selection and implementation tools
  • germplasm gateway.

The objectives of this meeting are to:

  • make wheat breeders aware of CSIRO project outputs that are ready now for evaluation and/or adoption in breeding programs
  • make wheat breeders aware of CSIRO project outputs that will be ready for evaluation in breeding programs in the near future
  • have dialogue around CSIRO prebreeding research objectives and priorities and their fit with those of breeding companies
  • promote interaction between CSIRO scientists and breeders leading to better informal communication and formal collaboration in the future.
