Description

This course has been designed to improve competencies in medical knowledge, practice-based learning, systems-based practice, and patient care. Upon completion of this educational activity and its post-test and evaluation tool, the learner should be able to:

  • Apply an improved understanding of the biology, epidemiology and natural history of anal HPV infection and HPV-related neoplasia and describe how these factors relate to optimal practice of at-risk patients with preinvasive and invasive disease of the anal canal (medical knowledge);
  • Assess practice populations to identify patients who may benefit from screening, diagnosis, and treatment (practice-based learning, patient care);
  • Demonstrate the diagnostic procedures used in the evaluation of anal dysplasia and anal cancer including anal cytology, high resolution anoscopy, and anal biopsy (practice-based learning, patient care); and,
  • Describe and apply the appropriate treatment and management options for anal dysplasia and anal cancer (medical knowledge, systems-based practice, patient care).
