Comparison of immature life stages duration of Liriomyza trifolii (Dip.: Agromyzidae) in field and laboratory conditions

The study was done in 2002-2003 to determine the immature life stages duration of Liriomyza trifolii Bergess in field and laboratory conditions. In field, after daily visit, polluted sample leaves were collected from been field (Surny variety) in Karaj and were carried to lab. After immerge of adults and identifying them, pairs of male and female were placed in special leaf cage Petri-dishe (12*8 Cm with porous lids) on the leaf of been in it. Duration of each immature life stage was recorded after their fecundity.

In laboratory conditions pairs of male and female in the leaf cages that were placed in Surny been vases, were reared under growth chamber (28±2°C, RH 55±5%, 16:8 photoperiod). 20 been shrub and 3 leaves from each shrub were elected in all experiments in both field and laboratory conditions.

Results showed that the mean developmental period from egg to adult was 18 days in fields (egg 1.9±0.04, larvae 6.4±0.04 and pupa 9±0.02 days) and was 15 days in laboratory conditions (egg 1.6±0.03, larvae 6.25±0.03 and pupa 7±0.03 days). Mean comparison of developmental periods in field and laboratory conditions showed that significant difference was between two similar stage in field and laboratory conditions (P<0.001) and this difference was sever in egg and pupa period in compare to larvae.
