One of the main attractions of the city is St. Stephan church with the colourful stained glass windows by Marc Chagall. The weekly market in front of the Cathedral features everything a traveller could wish, from flowers to fresh local products and clothes.

The location is great if you have an early departure from the train station, but not so great if you want to go out to the old town in the evening.
What I liked was the convenience around my train trip snd the good quality of the hotel.

Mainz is a relatively small city founded in Roman times and
sits where the Rhine and Main rivers meet. Some Roman ruins still remain.
There is plenty of good shopping, places of interest and some great restaurants, a couple of days in the city is probably enough.
The Rhine forms the border between Rhineland Palatinate and Hessen, so you may need different travel tickets if you leave Mainz itself.
To see further afield, either the rhineland or hessen day tickets give up to five people unlimited rail travel for a very reasonable cost (about £30) so you can explore a large area cheaply.

I was there for work, so I didn’t act much as a tourist.
Anyway I think that Mainz is a rather typical German city with an interesting Altstadt and good transportation. All the other districts I visited were rather abandoned, with tones of waste on the streets and an air of what the French call “decadence”. I didn’t feel safe walking back to my hotel at night and for 4 whole days I didn’t meet just one policeman.

Mainz is a great place to stay if you're flying into/out of the Frankfurt airport. A short 20-minute ride via the S Bahn takes you to a peaceful town with an amazing amount of things to see.
In addition to the Gutenberg Bible Museum, this small but clean and safe city has an amazing Dom and Aldstadt to visit.

Mainz is a wonderful city right on the Rhine River and close to Frankfurt. I was stationed near there back in the late 1980s and really enjoyed the area. The people are friendly and welcoming. There are museums and lots of stores and shops to visit. We also enjoyed visiting the Gutenberg Museum and the Dom. We ate at our hotel in Finthen and it was very good.
Just a regular B&B. Nothing special, it was clean and ok and closest to the venue we were visiting. You get what you see on the pictures
The accommodations in Mainz are pricey, considering what the city and surrounding has to offer. But that's how the market is.
Check in is easy, you get a card with the code with which you access the building and the room. At checkout time I think the code just expires and you cannot enter again. No one was in the reception on Sunday when we were leaving.
Great location across the street from the Mainz central train station with its city light rail and bus hub. Many nearby dining options. Very quiet room with blackout drapery and reasonable work space. Street noise and light were not an issue. Wonderful vintage (late 19th century?) building. Interior is modern - appears to have been recently renovated.
The Manager, Michael, was extremely helpful at all times. He provided free breakfast for us, which was great. He also stored our luggage during the day. Our room was on the top floor and was very well designed with everything we needed. The Guesthouse is well situated for the train station and the old town. I highly recommend Mainz Guesthouse
Very good hotel directly opposite the central station in Mainz and within walking distance of the Altstadt. The room was a decent size, as was the bathroom, and everything was fine. The breakfast buffet included the usual items for breakfast in Germany and was good. In short, a hotel I'll look for when visiting Mainz again.
the room is quiet, you don't hear anything from the road. The bed is comfortable and the location is good, within walking distance to the city. If you are lucky, you can park your car in front of the hotel for free, otherwise, there is a parking lot just opposite of the hotel which doesn't cost that much at all.
The location of the flat is great, close to the train station and on the edge of Altstadt.
The balcony is fantastic and offers a lovely seat with a view for a breakfast coffee or evening wine.
The room is a great size, and you'd be very lucky to find a hotel room this size for this price.
Great location, right in the City Center, just walk out of the building and you can get everything from all kinds of shops. Very nice view, can see the old town of Mainz. The host is very friendly and helped to organise a better room for our little baby. It is very kind of him.
Everything was fine!
The hotel is situated next to one of the main streets of Mainz. The noise isolation was very good! But it was not possible to sleep with opened windows. Due to the air condition, there was not a problem with the heat we had in those days!
Lovely staff and accommodation! I had help with everything I needed from the staff and the conditions were very pleasant as well. I highly recommend the hotel if you’re looking for a place to spend the night in Mainz.
Hotel is across street from Bahnhof. Rooms are layed out very nice with enough room.
Breakfast was good with lots of choices. Staff pleasant and helpful. Location good for altstadt. Great place to stay.
It is a very nice brand new apartment hotel airside the city. It’s especially good if you want to play golf. There is also a place outside to park bicycles. Parking was free.
Location: This hotel is located right next to the Mainz station.
Staff hospitality: the staff members were nice overall and helped me find what I need within the city.
I would like to thank the staff of the Hotel because of their guidance as well a their kindness.
The only problem s the us station is a little away from the Hotel.
From the Mainz train station it’s close room was amazing staff was great next time I’m in town for work I will be back next time I need to have your breakfast
This was our 2nd visit to the hotel. As before very friendly staff, excellent food and service. Location is perfect for exploring the old town of Mainz.
