FAQs about hotels in San Francisco

An Icon of Liberalism

Home to one of America’s icons – the Golden Gate Bridge – San Francisco is a liberal city where life is very much for the living.

Surrounded by water on 3 sides, the city's spread over steep hills that make for great photo ops. And none better than the zig-zag Lombard Street, seen in many a film. Even more famous are San Fran's iconic trolleys climbing the hills – a little touristy, but still worth a ride.

In the middle of the bay, Alcatraz island is known for the notorious criminals once imprisoned there. Even if you don’t go inside, the views of the bridge and city are unparalleled.

Nowhere is life in San Francisco more laid-back than on the Pacific beaches. Rent a bike and head out there, passing through the huge Golden Gate Park, before returning to sample some fresh seafood at Fisherman’s Wharf. Don't miss the clam chowder served in bread bowls! Chinatown also has a great selection of mid-range restaurants.

As you fly into San Francisco Airport, look out for the exclusive homes lining the Bay Area. Whether you want a more independent stay in apartments, luxury San Francisco hotels or cheap hostels, Booking.com has something for everyone. Be careful though – you might just leave your heart here!

San Francisco is absolutely a beautiful historic environment. If you love history and beautiful buildings, you will LOVE San Francisco. I must warn you that no matter the time of year, wear layers of clothing and bring sunglasses. It can get really chilly, and then warm in a matter of seconds. I absolutely love San Francisco. The only downfall is the parking is scarce and can be really expensive if you find parking. I would visit and use Uber instead of having a rental car. There are also huge double decker buses that is reasonable in pricing that will take you all over the must-see areas. You can actually jump off and jump back on throughout the entire 24 hours. This was the highlight of my trip, and it allowed me to get some beautiful pictures that will last a lifetime.

A lovely city, San Francisco has the lot!

A lovely city, San Francisco has the lot! It's always sad to see the homelessness and rampant drug addiction in the Tenderloin and right down to Market St in some places. In most cases you are left alone, however travelling as a single female I can imagine it's intimidating. Try to avoid that area, everywhere else seems fine and safe as any big city. If you have a spare day for touristic activities highly recommend the SF Bay ferry system - can use them to get to the USS Hornet Aircraft Carrier Museum! Neat!!

We enjoyed meeting many people and found the Americans very polite and helpful. We were also very surprised how clean and tidy San Francisco is - a joyful experience for holiday makers! I was very surprised that nobody - and I mean nobody!- reads newspapers anymore. If they do, it must be online - which is probably the main reason this city is so tidy! As with many cities around the world now, we found that eating- out was comparatively expensive, but the quality was good and in most cases plentiful! We only visited San Francisco - then Hawaii and Mexico very briefly - but the visit was hugely enjoyable and needs to be repeated in the future.

Loved San Fran, have to admit was a bit apprehensive having read some of the comments and social media however we felt safe at all times. We stayed in Fisherman's Wharf, frequented pier 39 several times, rode the railcar, enjoyed the night life and walked through China Town. Also took the ferry to Alcatraz which was enjoyable. Look there are homeless people around, but that's true now in nearly every major city. We didn't visit the city extensively but the 3 days we were there and the places we visited were very enjoyable. Thought the driverless cab was hilarious. People-friendly, prices-usual city surcharge, weather in march-bright and dry. Fab hotdogs from the stalls along the Wharf. Lots more we could have done so plenty to fill a 4/5 day trip.

Hayes Valley is a fun, beautiful area in San Francisco.

Hayes Valley is a fun, beautiful area in San Francisco. It’s a great area to stay to visit SF Jazz, SF Opera, the Asian Art Museum and so much more. The restaurants and shopping are varied and often pretty memorable, making you want to return. Walking around the neighborhood, you’ll find a few nice parks full of people just enjoying their day.

The hotel is very cool, clearly designed by people with great taste, boasting a wonderful energetic atmosphere and friendly staff. For me it was a highly enjoyable experience. I absolutely loved the common area (living room), a large open space with a working station, bar and breakfast area. The location is also convenient, next to Union Square, and situated close to many restaurants, bars, and shops. The whole hotel just radiates such a positive energy and makes its guests feel at home.

This hotel is an old building with a lot of character. The room was quite spacious and had a kitchenette which was very handy with a small fridge and microwave. The bed was very comfortable and the reception area had comfy leather sofas and was a nice place to spend time whilst waiting to go to the airport. The location is good, a short walk to Union Square and there are good bar and restaurant options nearby plus a superette next door.

Hotel is located about a block away from Union Square and the cable cars. 3-4 blocks away from the BART/Muni Metro station. Reasonable parking, even for San Francisco standards, is a block away. Nice breakfast/lunch places within walking distance as well and a bar/restaurant on premisis. Bathroom was small, but well-stocked with shampoo, conditioner and body wash.
