FAQs about hotels in San Diego

The Art of Easy Living

Sweeping along the coast against a mountain backdrop, San Diego has easy living down to a fine art. Its wonderful beaches and mild climate make it a favorite spring break destination, and with over 40 city breweries, there are plenty of ice cold beers to set the mood.

The city’s most recognizable landmark is the Hotel del Coronado, a wooden Victorian beach resort, now a National Historic Landmark. As original Spanish mission and first in California, it's has been relocated to the Mission Valley area, and Old Town San Diego still has many Colonial buildings and quirky shops. Also great for shopping are Horton Plaza and the boutiques in the beachfront neighborhoods.

The city’s most famous attraction is its zoo in Balboa Park, a few blocks from San Diego International Airport. One of the world’s largest zoos, it is well worth a visit, as is the fantastic SeaWorld, home to several killer whales. To see wildlife in its natural habitat head to La Jolla beach where harbor seals rest, or watch whales in season from Point Loma Lighthouse.

Just over the border from Mexico’s Tijuana, San Diego has a distinctly Latin American vibe and a variety of accommodations encompassing apartments, motels, B&Bs and hotels. See Booking.com for the best deals.

A fabulous place! Perfect first visit and I hope to have many more. The people are friendly, the food is delicious and so varied and the sunsets and sunrises are so dreamy. Great places to eat: Copper Top Coffee, Oscar’s Mexican Seafood, Board and Brew and really anything near Pacific Beach!

San Diego is fun for everyone.

San Diego is fun for everyone. We did the US Midway tour, US Marine Museum, Whale Watching and visited Downtown, Little Italy, Gaslamp district. Was fun, great places to eat at and enjoy the weather and coast. It is pricey, so if you're willing to take a hit to the wallet, it is an awesome place to be.

Due to our booked airbnb accommodation being disgusting we only got the one day there but we went to the USS Midway museum, this was fantastic and not to be missed, the Doubletree hotel was good all things right, only downside the resteraunt was extortionate prices and really spoiled the stay. Had to go out to eat but there was a small mall with nice shops and an assortment of eating choices about 5 minutes walk away, saved the day.

San Diego have really worked hard on making it a tourist-...

San Diego have really worked hard on making it a tourist-friendly city. Their tourist web site (SanDiego.org) has a lot of really good suggestions about what to do and see in the city and the surrounding area. We stayed in La Jolla which is a nice small town but has easy access via transit to the city. If you are in a car, there appears to be a lot of free parking for various attractions (e.g .Balboa Park, Old Town) and you can park for free in the Old Town and get to downtown San Diego in about 15 minutes using their excellent tram system. If you are driving, you can travel out to Coronado and enjoy the State Park there. Also worthwhile is a trip to the desert on Hwy 52.

Actually , my target was to attend the American Academy of Dermatology at the convention center. I went to Lajolla, Balboa park and Old town. Any extra times was for shopping. It was winter time. I used public transportation, the hotel is easily accessible through the green line trolley and bus 88 and the old town station.I used the airport electric bus free of charge to old town bus and bus # 88 from there.

Absolutely beautiful and fantastically fun area! I would be happy alone, with family or a girlfriend. So much to do and such great atmosphere and food, weather etc. Only problem was FANTASTICALLY EXPENSIVE! Holy cow, bring a lot of cash. Absolutely everything cost a fortune, so we weren't able to stay as long as we wanted.

I was in San Diego for a conference in the convention center. I was looking for an affordable place which is close to the center. With this accommodation I found exactly what I wanted. My room was really big and offered everything I needed. Also that the hotel is situated in the gaslamp quater was really nice, since you did not have to walk too far at night after dinner and drinks. Finally, I think the staff is doing a really great job! They were super nice and helpful, always in a good mood and made you a feel safe and welcome.

Lovely hotel with a great location in Little Italy. Walking distance to the waterfront, Downtown San Diego and Balboa Park. 3 blocks away from a trolley station. 10 minute car ride to the airport. The area is awesome, feels very safe at night with plenty of movement (though the room is quiet so no problem getting a good night's sleep). Many restaurants and coffee shops nearby which provide great options for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Room size is OK and a microwave is included. A/C unit working. Friendly staff.

We were able to park the car and walk to both sides of the island (bay side and Ferry Landing; and ocean side and Hotel Del Coronado). We walked to the ferry and went over to downtown San Diego and walked to enough attractions to fill a day and evening, then back to the ferry. On return, the patio seating area out on Orange Ave is awesome. The room had an island hut vibe to it. Convenient check-in and check-out. Groceries within walking distance allowed us to pit the lottle refrigerator to use. Good stay!

The location is perfect for central San Diego. Unlike Los Angeles, the city actually has an organic, somewhat historic center with plenty of residential life. Yes, there are a lot of homeless around, but that's California these days, and we never felt unsafe (though we were always cautious). As for the hotel ... well. The staff are pleasant. Beds are fairly comfortable. The continental breakfast is rather spare, but a nice touch. There's a good little Italian joint right across the road.

Very convenient location for exploring the area. Easy to find. Fun decorations. Convenient having a washer and dryer available. The place was great for a short visit. Please ignore the previous bad review of this apartment from somebody who didn't even enter the building. Yes, there are homeless people in San Diego. No, it is not the fault of the apartment or owner. There are many top tier hotels in the same neighborhood. I enjoyed my stay, and felt perfectly safe.

I love the beautiful view of the Palm trees outside of my room. The room size was perfect and very clean, the carpet was clean, the staff was amiable, and the breakfast prices were reasonable. The hotel was 20 mins away from Downtown and attractions. I would recommend this hotel to stay in and will stay again next time I visit San Diego! The Pool scenery is very beautiful and the pool temperature was just right, warm!

The location is great and the front desk staff was kind. The rooms are super small and so is the bathrooms. There was no outlets in the bathroom to plug anything in. This please is a good place to stay if you are just using the room to sleep in and be out and about in San Diego. Very close to downtown and little Italy. Parking is difficult to find, you need to park in the street the hotel does not have their own parking.

Good hotel for a good price among the others in this zone, you can take the bus just in front of the hotel. There is a Mall (Mission Valley) 10 min away walking from Days inn I really enjoyed my experience in this place, and in the maps it seems far away from San Diego downtown, but you can move by bus / trolley around San Diego, in 20 / 30 min.
