A popular quiz question is: what’s the capital of Australia? If you answered Sydney or Melbourne then it’s time to discover the real answer – Canberra. With Parliament House at its core, Canberra fans out across both sides of Lake Burley Griffin to reveal a diverse mix of museums, restaurants and bars filled with curious tourists, political persons and public servants.
Canberra was created as a solution to Australia’s 2 largest cities squabbling over the right to become the national capital. The Limestone Plains region in New South Wales was chosen as the site for present day Canberra. It was a good choice for nature lovers as it is surrounded by bushland, mountain ranges and, more recently, wineries.
The National Gallery, National Museum and National Library of Australia highlight Canberra’s cultural riches. Other notable institutions to visit are the High Court of Australia and the National Film and Sound Archive that stockpiles a collection of Australia’s early radio, television and film history.
The military also plays a significant role here with many training facilities for the army such as the Australian Defence Force Academy. An unforgettable experience is attending the Anzac Day Dawn service at The Australian War Memorial.
Australia’s cultural capital with a political punch has many hotels, motels and apartments on Booking.com for that city trip, business jaunt or family holiday.

THe city what we managed to see, is a great place to visit, and easy to to get around. It is a clean city, with lots of parks, and attractions. The lake and the lookouts from the hills.
Then the autumn colors at the right time of the year. Floriade in Commonwealth Park with all those beautiful Spring Flowers.
Canberra is certainly a city worth visiting , any time of the year.

There is plenty to see in Canberra and this was my 2nd time in 4 months, once with my 15yr old grandson and latest with husband.
Always good exhibitions in the various Galleries and Museums and both Houses of Parliament are worth the visit, specifcally Old Parliament House with the various displays of interest. Questacon is a must for all ages.
With my grandson we hired bikes for the day and had a great time cycling to all the venues. he loved lunching at Parliament House and the State Library and finally cycling to the War Memorial.

Great city to visit for a week - 10 days.
Great city to visit for a week - 10 days. Roads are fairly easy to negotiate with google maps. Lots of great places to eat, sight see. Lovely cruise on the lake, lots of galleries and museums to see - many free entry. Pretty clean city although some rugged footpaths. Paid parking on many streets so carry some coin. Plenty of free activities around. Pity Telstra tower has been left as a ruin. - used to be a fabulous lookout and restaurant.

We have been to Canberra many times and enjoyed such things as the War Memorial, Questacon, old and new Parluament Houses, the National Gallery, the High Court and the National Museum.
Two places we visited this time were the National Arboretum and the Canberra Botanic Gardens. Both were excellent, especially the Arboretum where the bonsai collection and the Village Centre were outstanding.
I had a large room at the front of the building. It was well appointed, clean and modern. The bed was extremely comfortable and the room was quiet. Breakfast was ok, but didn't match the standard of the hotel. The check in and all interactions with staff were excellent. This was my first stay at this hotel in Canberra and I thought it outstanding and will definitely return.
My wife and I enjoyed two nights at Avenue Hotel. The room was spacious, well-appointed and clean. The staff were all friendly and helpful. The hotel is in a great location as there are plenty of pubs, restaurants and cafes nearby. The main shopping centre in Canberra was just a short stroll from the Hotel. We will definitely stay here on our next visit to Canberra.
I've stayed in this hotel many times with work and when visiting family in Canberra. The hotel is in a fairly central location in the city. It has a nice outlook toward the city, parliament house and black mountain tower. It is close to Woden Plaza so shopping is close by.
Funky little hotel in inner south Canberra. Very nice clean lines in the hotel design, small but comfortable rooms. Designed more for the short stay visitor wanting value for money in a clean and comfortable hotel, rather than the luxury-seeking guest.
The location of this hotel was excellent. It was central to all of the main attractions in Canberra. The staff were helpful and knowledgeable about the local attractions. We were impressed by the facilities in the room.
Lovely hotel combining the splendour from the early days of Canberra with all the modern touches. Friendly and efficient staff. Had stayed twenty years earlier on a previous visit so wasn't disappointed on my return!
Great location close to the centre of Canberra with great access to shopping and restaurants
Great facilities in the hotel including heated indoor pool and sauna
Nice and relaxing bar and dining options
If you are coming to Canberra and want something in budget this is the place to go for,
from amazing staff, to comfortable and spacious rooms, to great common areas name it they have everything!
Full buffet breakfast being included in the price. The hotel bathrooms were very modern and great lighting. Overall a very lovely stay. Would recommend to others if visiting Canberra.
It's such good value for money. I stay here everytime I'm in Canberra. The staff are always so good. The staff go far and beyond what you'd normal expect from a super cheap hotel.
staff were very response and friendly, underground parking at the hotel is not pricey compared to other places, beds are quite comfortable. Rooms are quite modern as such.
We are a family with six people - so it is always great to find a room that fits us all. The room had all that we needed for a short visit to Canberra.
