Home to one of America’s icons – the Golden Gate Bridge – San Francisco is a liberal city where life is very much for the living.
Surrounded by water on 3 sides, the city's spread over steep hills that make for great photo ops. And none better than the zig-zag Lombard Street, seen in many a film. Even more famous are San Fran's iconic trolleys climbing the hills – a little touristy, but still worth a ride.
In the middle of the bay, Alcatraz island is known for the notorious criminals once imprisoned there. Even if you don’t go inside, the views of the bridge and city are unparalleled.
Nowhere is life in San Francisco more laid-back than on the Pacific beaches. Rent a bike and head out there, passing through the huge Golden Gate Park, before returning to sample some fresh seafood at Fisherman’s Wharf. Don't miss the clam chowder served in bread bowls! Chinatown also has a great selection of mid-range restaurants.
As you fly into San Francisco Airport, look out for the exclusive homes lining the Bay Area. Whether you want a more independent stay in apartments, luxury San Francisco hotels or cheap hostels, Booking.com has something for everyone. Be careful though – you might just leave your heart here!

I am not much of a city person, but I had to visit San Francisco to do some Visa work. It’s very easy to get around, locals are helpful, and the “Downtown” Is not congested. I was amazed at the cleanliness of the area I stayed in and how the neighbourhoods are decorated and gardens planted by the residents. There are some seedy areas, but if you avoid these, you have plenty of nice areas and fun things to do. The ambience and architecture remind me of southern Europe. I was warned about the rain, but I had 4 days of clear skies. It was May, but cooler than I expected, and windy. I would have been more comfortable with a hooded coat. The atmosphere is relaxed, casual, and friendly.

My favorite city in the USA.
My favorite city in the USA. I do recommend to visit this city if you're an adventurous traveler, with deep respect to local culture and customs. Great place to enjoy a great variety of interesting attractions: forest, ocean, city, small towns, in a state that leads efforts to mitigate the climate change and improve the air quality.
San Francisco and Sausalito... always in my bucket list

San Francisco isn't a real place with real people.
San Francisco isn't a real place with real people. It is there to run game on the working class and scam people out of their youth. It is the most expensive city on earth. At any given moment residents are outnumbered by tourists and homeless. Don't be a sucker.

NO FRILLS, NO EXTRAS, JUST BEDS AND A SMALL ROOM. PARKING IS EXTRA - $25 PER NIGHT. LOCATION IS THE BEST PART, RIGHT ON MARKET AT VALENCIA, CLOSE TO DOWNTOWN, MISSION DISTRICT, CASTRO ETC. F-LINE STOP VERY CLOSE TO THE HOTEL. SMALL FRIDGE AND MICROWAVE IN THE ROOM. BRAZILIAN BBQ PLACE ACROSS THE STREET (5 STARS ON THAT RESTAURANT), MARTINI/PIANO BAR ALSO ACROSS STREET. LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION IS THE REAL DRAW OF THIS HOTEL - HOTEL FACILITIES THEMSELVES ARE JUST OK
This hotel is an old building with a lot of character. The room was quite spacious and had a kitchenette which was very handy with a small fridge and microwave. The bed was very comfortable and the reception area had comfy leather sofas and was a nice place to spend time whilst waiting to go to the airport. The location is good, a short walk to Union Square and there are good bar and restaurant options nearby plus a superette next door.
We had a short 3-day stay in San Francisco and enjoyed our time at the Handlery Union Square Hotel. The bed was comfortable. There was a small fridge were we could store some items.
Clean room and refreshed every day. We had some benefits at a nearby diner as thanks for being a Handlery guest.
The Hotel is on the margins of Union Square, which in itself is safe. A bit of caution needed when going a few streets beyond.
I found this place in a travel blog written by SF locals, and I’m so glad I did. As a single female, I felt safe in the area and in the hotel, which was one of my main criteria. The hotel was charming, and the staff incredibly friendly. They offered a complimentary wine and cheese in the evening and then breakfast in a cute lounge with fireplaces. It was east walking distance to explore Union Square and China town.
Friendly, knowledgeable and very helpful staff makes the Beresford Arms a wise choice in the Bay Area. Clean, spacious rooms, great city views, in a location that is full of things to do, restaurants galore; Union Square, Chinatown, Nob Hill and North Beach neighborhoods are within easy walking distance. We’ve stayed at both Beresford properties and they are our go-to hotels when staying in San Francisco!
1. The hotel has a perfect location:
- Right next to China town, close to Union square, close to metro and financial district.
- Train from the airport stops nearby.
- The neighbourhood looks very safe.
- There are plenty of bars, restaurants and shops nearby.
2. The hotel looks clean
3. The price is acceptable for San Francisco standards
I like the location, that was near to downtown and near to power street station where you take the train and metro. Also the area its nice, its safe, its right in the beggining of tenderloin, but its clean and nice, you have union square 5 min walking. you can go walking all around dowwtown from the hotel.
Staff super nice, and clean.
Great and peaceful location on the cable car route to the Bay area, historic vintage interiör, all stories, photos and art on the walls of the hotel, the Black Cat Bar, library, very kind and helpful staff. This building offers a sight to the San Franciscos development. The hotel rooms are rebuild, fresh and new. We highly recommend!
The staff were friendly, the hotel was clean and we felt safe in the hotel. Although the overall general area is in downtown San Francisco and there is a homeless problem, we did not experience any major issues. Our car was kept safe next to the hotel in the parking area. There are lots of food options and UberEats in the area.
Staff was friendly and efficient. Location is ideal, close to Union Square, stores, and theaters. The warm, inviting ambience is felt throughout: in the room, the charming communal sitting area, and the equally quaint space for evening wine and morning continental breakfast in the sister hotel nextdoor.
Best stay in San Francisco. I travel once a year to SF and have stayed at pretty much every hotel. This is by far the best. It’s newly built, modern, clean and you can sleep at night with no noise which never happens in Union Square. The staff are amazing too and has a hip rooftop.
The hotel is located in the downtown. A lot of food options nearby as well as walkable distance to various attractions like ferry building and union square. The hotel is clean and there is a nice coffee shop on the first floor as well as a bar and some outdoor seating options a.
It was an exceptional stay, the hotel is located right next to the Union square which is great if you’re planning to use the public transport. Though the hotel is in the downtown, the nearby area feels quite calm and safe. The staff was super friendly and willing to help.
Modern, stylish and spacious hotel. Rooms very comfortable and amazing views. Great check-in team, very helpful. It is in a smart area, a couple of streets away from Chinatown. Much better to stay in this area rather than downtown/Union Square which isn't as nice.
Layne hotel is a very good option to stay in San Francisco. Very good located just 15 minutes walking of the Moscone, and 5 minutes walking to the Union Square, Ryan has an excellent customer service always pending on our requests. I will back definitely.
Cute boutique hotel in the heart of Union Square. Very basic hotel, but it has all the necessities. Staff were friendly, it was comfortable, and fairly priced. Not very spacious, but understandably so since it is a historic building in the heart of downtown.
Everything!
Small kitchenette (fridge, microwave, coffee machine, utensils and basic kitchenware), good tv, great sized room, new and clean!! Magnificent hotel. Really well situated in San Francisco! (Union Square)
This hotel is just on the edge of the popular Union Square area. It was close enough to walk to points of interest, but just out of range of crowds and noise. The staff was especially attentive and friendly.
The hotel is very well located in the heart of San Francisco's Financial District, right next to Union Square.
The room is great, with a great mattress and pillows.
The shower was also great.
