For the price and location, it was a good compromise as it was about a 10-15 minute walk from the JR station and boat ports and maybe 20-30 minute walk to Ritsurin Garden. Of course if you don't like walking, there's a bus stop just outside. Room was typical of Japanese hotel but I never mind as long as the bed is comfy and there is a private bathroom to use. A ton of places to eat as it is a block away from an arcade of restaurants. Convenience stores are nearby in abundance like always.

The hotel was only a short walk from the train station and located on the main boulevard. The room was reasonably large in size and the bed was comfortable. The location was close to the covered shopping streets that extend for a considerable distance with numerous dining options. There is a fairly good breakfast buffet available at an additional cost in the restaurant downstairs.
Offering a Japanese/French restaurant with outdoor dining, rental bicycles and free parking, Takamatsu Kokusai Hotel is 2.5 mi from JR Takamatsu Station and 2.2 mi from Ritsurin-koen Garden.

Great place to unwind from the hustle and bustle of major cities in Japan, also a perfect jumping-off point for exploring islands in the Seto Inland Sea. It’s a bit sleepy and not tourist oriented, but that’s part of the charm. Plus, some of the best udon i’ve ever had.

Takamatsu is a wonderful city to explore, and it has famous sites such as Ritsurin Garden and Yashima Temple. It has lots of options for shopping and eating, and beautiful views from many locations. There's also an opportunity to take Udon making class and visit nearby islands. Udon and other local delicacies are easy to find and excellent.

Takamatsu - like the rest of Shikoku - is chronically overlooked by most tourists it Japan in favor of the traditional ‘Big Name’ places like Osaka & Kyoto, but that doesn’t make it any less deserving of your visitation. On the contrary, the fact there are relatively few tourists means you can enjoy it all to yourself!
For one, it’s easily accessible. Arriving from Okayama on the Shinkansen, take the Marine Liner and you’ll be there in an hour. Even better, the ride is amazing with the views from the Seto Sea bridges that you cross giving you phenomenal views of the waters and islands between Honshu & Shikoku.
Once you arrive, you’ll find everything is nearby: the compact city center means that most attractions are easily & quickly accessible, together with plentiful shopping & dining areas.
But best of all is the beauty you’ll find here: The waves of the sea lapping the shore, the views for miles around from the top of the Icon Tower, nearby islands you can explore with a short boat ride, and cultural attractions like Shikoku Village and Ritsurin Koen that easily rival anything you can find in Kyoto.
Takamatsu is a hidden gem that just happens to be on the side of Japan where tourists don’t tread. But as lamentable as it is that it doesn’t get its deserved recognition, the absence of tourists is a good thing in that you can enjoy it without having to worry about crowds!

The 'Ritsurin Garden' is probably the finest garden in Japan and was my first 'target'. Although I arrived at 09:00 and spent over 4-hrs in the Garden, I only managed to take in the South Garden. I really should have allowed some extra time to complete the North Garden as well but tiredness and the need to continue on to other destinations prevailed. Please note that the garden opens at sunrise throughout the year; in September that means they open at 05:30am! Had I known that, I would headed there much earlier.
My second 'target' in visiting Takamatsu was to visit the latter temples (Temples 78 ~ 87) on the Shikoku Pilgrimage. Most of these (as well as Ritsurin Garden) are fairly accessible from the various lines of the Kotoden Electric Railway, so I would recommend purchasing day passes for frequent travel on the Kotoden.

Naoshima, Teshima, Ritsin Garden, Takamatsu Castle are the sites to see in town and there are others in town as well. Surprisely, every major European designer has a store in this town as well. And there are other interesting towns nearby. Kurashiki and Kotahira are steeped in tradition with not a lot if Western travelers.

We had a lot of fun driving over the huge bridges to get there, and were so surprised at the size of this town/city! It was a lot bigger than expected and took some time to actually reach the hotel! This isn't really reflected in the map! We could have stayed much longer to enjoy the scenery and city but hadn't planned it in itinerary. So, I can't comment well on what it has to offer as we were time poor. But, driving thru and staying for a night was a very enjoyable experience using both bridges to the island! A lovely area.
I particularly enjoyed the location; a short walk from the nearest Kotoden Station and the hotel is physically connected to the Central Takamatsu Shopping Arcades, Arriving by taxi in a rainstorm; after check-in, I was immediately able to stroll around some 2.7km of covered shopping arcades, (including luxury shops, department stores, restaurants, etc.), without the need for an umbrella.
Rooms well equipped; particularly impressed by the provision of extra pillows in the room, as I need to elevate my head whilst sleeping.
I stayed for 4 nights.
The hotel is in walking distance to the 85th temple, as well as artist Isamu Naguchi’s former studio/Museum. The room and public area are all very very clean. I enjoyed the hot bath enormously after a long day. The owner of the hotel is super friendly who really takes care of the guest‘s comfort and safely. I borrowed the electrical bike from the host to cycle along the coastlines. It was the best way to explore local areas,
The location is convenient to the station (there's a direct bus to the station that goes right by) and is a redeveloped businesss area called "Kitahama Alley". As for the units, this is.a proper "Pension Hotel" apparently designed and built by the owner (the business across the street is a "Reform" Architecture office). The interior design was nice for 1 or 2 people, with contemporary Japanese minimalist design touches.
Bathroom was clean. Staff were friendly. Great affordable breakfast set that was really tasty and fresh. Just a minute away from a bus stop that will take you to Takamatsu station. The wooden bunks were stylish and more comfortable than expected, cabins felt private.
We espeically liked how conveniently located this hotel this, just a short walk from Takamatsu Station, and the quite generous size of our room. We also had a good view, overlooking Takamatsu harbor. Everything was clean, and the staff were helpful and friendly.
This hotel is located beside the JR station and the ferry station(I was taking the ferry from Syodojima to Takamatsu), besides it takes only 2 minutes walk to the Takamatsu Jo park.
I love the sight from this hotel's ohuro (Japanese SPA) too.
The staff don't speak much english, but it was we were still able to communicate what was necessary to them, despite not knowing Japanese. The club access is worth paying for! You feel pretty fancy going to the club in this swanky hotel.
Location is very handy if you're getting in/out of Takamatsu. Train station, ferry terminal, and heaps of car rental shops nearby. Place was quiet and while a bit rough, it was clean and comfortable enough for a night.
The location is good, it is just opposite to the JR Station. Just add a little money, then the breakfast is included. Though it is not served at the hotel, it is quite convenient inside the JR Station
Close to Takamatsu port, station and all car rentals, possibility to drop your luggage before check in and leave it after, mattress/futon were very confortable, free coffee and tea in the kitchen
Very nice hotel in great location near the train station and the ferry terminal. Quite expensive but certainly a high quality hotel. Bar, restaurants and a bakery all in the hotel building
A decent distance from the station and the ruined castle, but otherwise a good hotel near restaurants and shops. Quiet room and coffee/tea and pop drinks.
