Because of safety issues, we were advised to avoid downtown Jo-burg which we only saw through car windows. We did tours of the Apartheid Museum and Soweto and found both of these very worthwhile. Fourways is a good area to just take a minute for a quick breakaway. There are a few accommodation options with varying prices to fit any budget. Places to eat are close by and affordable. Getting around can be tricky but there public transport available. Like any other place, you have to be aware of your surrounding but we never felt unsafe.

Your entrepreneurial instincts get stirred just being here. Its people are its selling point, but also again, its people who have chosen the way of crime are at another scale.
