The Apulian capital Bari has been known for its port since Roman times. Nowadays there are 2 harbours: cruise ships and ferries to Greece and Croatia depart from the new port, while the old port shelters fishing vessels.
Between them is a seafront road bordering the real attraction – the old town. Narrow, cobbled streets lead under arches to hidden piazzas with pavement cafes. Many are on adjoining Piazza Mercantile and Piazza del Ferrarese, where the old Roman road is exposed.
The imposing 12th-century Norman-Swabian Castle guards the west of the historic centre, and the simple Cathedral of San Sabino is from the same period. Equally understated is the Basilica of St Nicholas, housing relics of the saint. Pope John Paul II once prayed there, which may have given rise to Bari Airport’s name: Karol Wojtyła Airport.
Corso Vittorio Emanuele II is the meeting point of the old town and the Murat district, built under orders of Napoleon’s brother-in-law. Facing each other across this street are the colourful façades of the municipal office and Piccinni Theatre, though most prestigious is the Petruzzelli Theatre opera house.
Booking.com’s Bari accommodation includes luxury hotels by the Fiera del Levante, cheap city centre apartments, and B&Bs near the train station. For families, the slides and swimming pools of Bari Acquapark make a great day out.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Bari.
There were many interesting things to see in the city itself.
It was well connected to many other interesting places by public transport.
We particularly liked the old Bari and the walk along the waterfront.
There were lots of good eateries within easy walking distance.
Highlights for us included short train trips to matera (the sassi) and to alberobella (the trulli).

coming to Bari on Friday night was probably not a very good idea, but we found accommodation easily. The flat owner also took care of parking the car for us. The city has its charm even on a Friday night if you sit outside in a pizza restaurant and typical local songs are played and the cook comes out with pizza dough in his hands and sings along with the performer. Awesome.

The city is an excellent starting point for exploring Puglia. You can visit Lecce, Polignano a mare, Matera and other cities by train.
The town has a beautiful, long promenade along the sea.
The food is excellent. Octopus sandwiches are the best. You must try all types of panzzoritti.

Bari is a beautiful port city.
Bari is a beautiful port city. Well connected with other smaller towns and bigger centers, it's very vibrant place with a great cultural patrimony, beautiful and quite long lungomare (sea side promenade), excellent and affordable food. The people are kind and friendly. Also a great place for shopping. If you are looking a great place to explore history, culture and food, that's a place to go.
I loved this place. The location is absolutely perfect-- the best of Bari is literally outside the door. The apartment is on a palm tree-lined boulevard across from shopping, a few feet from the historic center, and across from the seafront. It was PERFECT. The place is also beautiful, clean, and gorgeous. The apartment is an older structure, but was redone beautifully with all modern touches. The washer/dryer was great, the bathrooms and light fixtures were great, and all details were perfect. The fast WiFi was another bonus. WE LOVED IT!
strategic location: quiet, safe, unique, real local residential area but still very close to city center (10min by bike ask tommaso about the bike)
facilities: not a five star hotel but instead with a five star host: ask tommaso for anything you need.
host: tommaso was the best host I’ve ever met, now he is my best friend in bari. he guided me through Polignano and matera and gave a lot of insider tips. Ask Tommaso, trust him and enjoy! cannot wait to be back!
This old style apartment in the middle of old town Bari is located on top a bustling restaurant street making you feel like you really live there. The sound of the street isn't overbearing and the facilities of the apartment allow for full cooked meals. Perfect location for you stay in old town and surrounded by some of the best food in the city.
Everything about this property and its owners are amazing! I would travel back to Bari just to stay here and enjoy the amazing breakfast and overall hospitality! This is one of the best places I have ever stayed in the world! From the beverages available throughout the day, to the gorgeous rooms, and friendly staff. Just absolutely perfect!
One of the best hotel experiences ever! The hosts were extremely nice and hospitable, room was beautiful, large and very comfortable, and the neighborhood is absolutely lovely. And every morning we were given a lovely pie from a local bakery! I will definitely come back both to Bari and Porta Piccola.
One of the best hosts ever had. Picked us up from the airport. Did a tour of the city with all the location to visit and also good places to eat. Messaged us well in advance to introduce himself and make the journey easy. Recommended places to visit outside Bari. All in all, I rate him 20/10 :)
The apartment was very spacious. Nicely decorated. Great bathroom and shower. The location was perfect. Close to shops, cafes, restaurants and the train station. Our friends stayed at a hotel in Bari at the same time and couldn’t believe how much space we had and how modern our apartment was.
Amazing hotel with the best breakfast we have had in years !The room was big and comfy as was the bed and the bathroom.Nice bath although a bit narrow. Great restaurant next door for pizza, pasta etc. There is a restaurant in the hotel as well, but we only had breakfast. Great value overall.
it had a at home type of energy. it was great for me. I really enjoyed this space. the owners were phenomenal. Best stay I had they showed us around took us to some amazing places for a small fee. the sites was worth every penny. Bari is now one of my top three places in Italy.
The hotel is in an amazing location in the old town, but also close to the more modern area. Staff were super helpful. And definitely try the restaurant owned by the hotel! One of our best meals in Bari.
