Mannheim is famous for its unique street layout due to the city being distinguished by squares rather than by streets. This former fishing village offers lively culture and is home to local iconic landmarks the Water Tower, Mannheim Palace and the popular Friedrichsplatz.
Mannheim is a shopper’s haven; this is reflected in popular shopping areas The Planken, Marktplatz and Paradeplatz which are surrounded by a variety of restaurants, cafés and bars.
Take a stroll or a streetcar (Strassenbahn) through the city’s quarters around lively Kapuzinerplanken and Paradeplatz. Be sure to visit the modern and contemporary art museum Kunsthalle Mannheim, Sebastian's Church and catch a production at the National Theatre Mannheim.
Heidelberg and the picturesque Luisenpark are perfect for a day trip, especially during the spring and summer months. Mannheim Central Station has routes to major cities such as Berlin, Hamburg, Amsterdam and Prague.
Check out Booking.com for a number of hotels, guest houses and aparthotels in Mannheim, Heidelberg, Ludwigshafen am Rhein and throughout Baden-Württemberg.
I came at the wrong time of year, cold and wet. None the less if you're dressed right there is a lot to see. Be adventurous and explore by getting a day ticket (public transportation) to take you all over Mannheim.

We went to see a lot of Christmas Markets and the Novum hotel is round the corner from the train station and we found it easy to travel to all our destinations , plus visiting interesting places in Mannheim , Our only problem was that we could not benefit from the Deuch travel ticker that cost €49 and you can travel all over Germany by trains , trams and buses , for a month , but it is only for Germans and not for the European countries as well , which I find unfair . We were happy with our Hotel but we had no Wifi in our room , we could only use their Wifi in the ground floor .

Surprising city.
Surprising city. Some very nice, historic areas, and excellent shopping malls and streets. Lots of good cafes and restaurants.
As with most cities, it is quite busy with traffic, and is noisy throughout the night with major roads running through and around it. Also, again like many places, some neighbourhoods can feel a little unsafe, with groups of people gathering and drinking on corners etc.
Worth noting that many cafes and small convenience stores only accept cash, or only take card payments above a certain amount. There are plenty of ATMs, but the ones not at a bank can charge very high fees to withdraw cash.
Whilst the city is easy to walk around and not huge, the tram is a brilliant way to get around. Day tickets are reasonably priced, and you can travel pretty far out to neighbouring towns and cities. They do get busy around morning and evening rush hours, and they can get very full.
Food and beverage prices get higher the closer you get to the tourist areas. The main tourist area is around the Water Tower. Some nice cafes around the gardens, but be prepared to pay more for things there.
There are some really excellent places to eat dotted around the city. Mainly small independent spots, and prices are generally very reasonable. Of these, I can highly recommend Caffe Sammo, Baguelette Café, Henriette Burger Bar, and JAMY'S Burger which are all places we ate. Some of the service can be a little slow, but I don't know whether that was because of the time/day we went, or whether there were shortages of staff. Nothing major, but not necessarily what everyone might expect.
Overall, Mannheim is a decent place. I wouldn't say it's a tourist heaven, and it is fairly mundane in many ways. We were there visiting our daughter at Mannheim University, but I probably wouldn't have the city very high on a list of German tourist destinations.

Very pleasantly surprised by the city.
Very pleasantly surprised by the city. Excellent shopping facilities with a number of malls and pedestrianised shopping streets. Some beautiful architecture in some of the older buildings.
Great transport links, with trams and buses, although it's possible to walk almost everywhere. Lively nightlife and it seemed that all the bars and restaurants had the nicest staff.
The Water Tower and the gardens around it are probably the visual highlight, but the university is a very impressive building, and there are a number of churches as well.

Was able to wander around town with food centres close by without having to walk to look. The tram service was reliable except for #4. at the moment of writing. Museums, parks, and other places of interest were within walking distance from each other

Mannheim a beautifully and relaxing city to be visiting.
Mannheim a beautifully and relaxing city to be visiting. Food was plentiful to choose from. Not forgetting the shops although it is sad to see a few shops closed e.g Tchibo. Prices have gone up so a bit of hunting around to fit the budget.
The room was quite big. There were 4 of us and there were two queen size beds and a double bed. There was plenty of space and we had a fridge. The receptionists were helpful and friendly. We could check in early because our room was ready. The hotel was in central Mannheim with easy access to restaurants, shops and attractions.
Amazing hostel in centre of Mannheim. Super friendly and nice staff. Great facilities. Free breakfast. Towels included. Clean. Beds pretty comfortable. Lockers included no need for padlock. Nice lounge. The owner was very nice and showed great consideration for a an issue I faced. Laundry facilities available included.
Clean and spacious rooms, friendly staff.
Excellent location; 2 min walk to Mannheim Hbf, easy access to the public transport, 14 min walk to the Wasserturm Mannheim.
Nice decoration of the lobby and breakfast serving area.
Many restaurants, fast foods and cafes in the neighborhood (walking distance).
I stay there all the time while being in Mannheim to visit my supplier. It is close to the city center, just cross the street. The rooms are big and well maintained. Parking is available at extra cost. The breakfast buffet is very good, but I start to see some changes (no more salmon).
Old fashioned hotel, very charming and relaxing, just few steps outside the very center of Mannheim.
Room recently renovated, with high standards of furniture, like the jacuzzi or the lighting system.
Owners always striving to offer the best experience.
The staffs were very nice and service minded. They'd allowed for check-in since 8:30 am and offered for late check-out free of charge. Also the location is very very good. I'm so impressive. I can say it's the best hotel I've ever stayed.
The bed was comfy, staff was welcoming and the room was generally what you'd expect from a hotel of this level. The location was fantastic. Plenty of shopping, restaurants, and parks for the kids within very close walking distance.
The hotel is well situated in Mannheim, with several restaurants and bars close by for the evening. The rooms are nice and very clean. There is onsite car parking underground and there were always spaces available during our stay.
The hotel is nice, the decoration is also very cool, but when compared to the pictures is not really all that shiny, and you can see evident sings of wear. It is well located to go anywhere in Mannheim, so its good.
Cooking facilities were available for use. Cleaning was available when requested. The place is 8 blocks from the HBF Train station; a block away from Tram station. It is well located from University of Mannheim.
It's a very nice looking classic hotel with many wonderful features and experienced staf. The location is perfect, lovely area close to all you need, which is probably why I may come back.
The hotel as such was fine, it has all you need for a short stay. It is clean and well-connected to the main station and city centre. Staff are friendly.
