Our stay was brief - only two full days - but in addition to its castle and historic district made for walking, Matsue is a good jumping off point for day trips to Izumo Taisha shrine, the Adachi Art Museum and the garden at Yushien.
One evening we had an enjoyable meal at a local "okonomiyaki" restaurant on the quiet street behind the hotel. The 88-year old proprietress was energetic, fun to speak with, and recommended a very tasty locally-brewed sake.

Matsue Castle and the surrounding castle complex are incredible. It’s a far more authentic experience of feudal era Japanese castles than the remodeled, refurbished, and in many ways entirely rebuilt castles of Osaka, Nagoya, and Hiroshima, to name a few.

It's a wonderful and charming city! The art museums, castle/historical sites, and natural scenery are great. We had a lovely time just walking around the side streets and along the river. A hidden gem of Japan for sure!

Matsue castle is the best to recommend to you, to see from the outside and inside of old wooden architecture. I also recommend to visit an old great Izumo-taisha shrine by train from Matsue to Isumo-shi and bus from that station.

Matsue is a nice little city with a few interesting places to see (such as the castle). Its public transportation does leave a bit to be desired in terms of frequency, but, on the other hand, there are conveniences like a bus from Matsue station to Hiroshima that runs at thirty minute intervals. It is a bit far from more prominent locations nearby, though, which made scarce public transit a bit bothersome.
The guesthouse is as clean as a home, and the manager of the guesthouse is such a nice person. He speaks English well, and communication with him was very easy. He even dropped us off at the Matsue Station on the last day. The toilets and the bathroom was always clean although the guesthouse was quite busy on our last two days.

A nice place to stay at Matsue.
The hotel is close to the Train Station and the bus stop.
There are some shopping malls near the hotel and the train station, too.
The staff are friendly and can speak English well.
The room is tidy and clean. They also have some extra facilities like washing machines, dryers, ...
The location is just right in front of the JR Matsue Station, so it's very convinient to catch up with your schedule for train or bus. For the price we paid, it was pretty much average and might be a very good choice for solo travellers. The room didn't smell like cigarettes, so it was a pleasant stay.
The hotel is clean, the cubicles are comfortable, and the amenities are nice. I especially appreciate the self-service counter of skincare products and other self-care items. The buffet-style breakfast is nice, too, and contains a nice selection of both Japanese and western breakfast dishes.
Location was great. Rooms and overall appearance was clean. English speaking staff. Hotel does have a parking tower but there is also “Times Parking” that the hotel was able to validate for us. overall great stay and location. a budget friendly stay with great amenities.
amazing. we stayed here for my mom’s birthday trip and I told the staff for reservation in advance. the staff celebrated us and it was such a unforgettable birthday stay. strongly recommend if you love onsen, Japanese-style accommodation, and omotenashi
I always enjoy staying here when I'm passing through the area. The staff are very helpful, and the cubic rooms are safe and convenient. The hotel also added a community refrigerator recently, which I thought was nice.
Magnificent outdoor onsen with great view! The hotel staff are very nice and helpful. Fantastic food! Excellent hospitality! The Japanese garden in the hotel is one of the best in Japan and a must see!
This hotel is just stunning. Japanese-style, with tatami floors and a great onsen, sublime breakfast, perfect amenities and extras such as manga library, it is worth a visit in itself.
The hotel staff are very helpful. They call a Taxi for us and help send our bag to the airport. The hotel is beautyful was great. The stay is very costworthy and comfortable.
Extraordinary stay in Matsue. After we found the futon in the hallway, it was a comfortable stay. We didn’t have the time to test the sauna, but everything else was fine.
Great dorm/sharehouse like hotel in center of town. Got little kitchen, lounge, showers, laundry, everything you need to survive. No issue to WFH there.
