Known for beautifully undulating coastline attracting a wealth of wildlife, laid-back Monterey is on a small peninsula. Though now more famous for Monterey Jack cheese, it was once an important sardine fishing town. Some former canning factories now house galleries and shops on a street renamed Cannery Row after a novel by John Steinbeck. A museum and his former home in nearby Salinas can be visited.
The fantastic Monterey Bay Aquarium houses a fascinating range of local sealife, which is so prevalent here that you can often see seals basking on craggy beaches, or sea lions roaring away under piers in Fisherman’s Wharf. Whalewatching tours also depart from here.
South is the Monterey State Historic Park, site of historic buildings including Custom House and the Old Whaling Station with a path made from whalebone. To the east are a couple of Monterey hotels on the beach on Booking.com, and there are also several Monterey hotels with indoor pools.
Right by Monterey Peninsula Airport is one of the city’s 7 golf courses, and there are 3 golf courses near the Laguna Seca Raceway.
Whether you’re here for the Monterey Jazz Festival, or for driving the Big Sur Pacific coast road to the south, if you’re staying with kids, don’t forget to check out the Dennis the Menace Park.
Monterey is a great place to spend a few days. There is a lot to see and once you learn the one ways streets it is easy to get around. The wharf is fine, Cannery row is a tourist spot but it is fun and the aquarium is great. Food is very good in Monterey and Carmel.

Cannery Row is a bit of a tourist trap, but if you head away from the beach you quickly access the restaurants of Lighthouse Avenue, including Hula - Hawaian food. If I had my time again, I would have tried to stay nearer to the Acquariam, even as far west as Pacific Grove (technically the next town along), near the delights of Happy Girl Kitchen.

I love the ocean.
I love the ocean. There are just so many great little beaches to visit. Monterey has so much Sea life too. We saw harbor seals, otters, elephant seals, too late for the Monarch Butterflys, tons of birds, just from the walking paths! We actually walked from Monterey to Pacific Grove. There are also loads of shops, and restaurants.

My trip to Monterey Bay was amazing, due to how beautiful the scenery was and how close everything was to were I stayed. The Wave Street In was a great hotel to stay in because the aquarium and many restaurants are so close to it you can walk everywhere and not worry about parking. The hotel was also great as everything was clean and the staff was very helpful.

Visit the Monterey Bay Aquarium.
Visit the Monterey Bay Aquarium. Pre-book tickets online to avoid the ticket lines. Get their map and event schedule and get to events about 15 minutes prior for best positioning. Parking and food is cheaper the farther away from aquarium you go.
Would not recommend booking this place. We drove to this place all the way from SF and to our surprise they overbooked and just said they send us massage. They did not cancel the booking and did not bother actually getting in contact with us. The manager was arrogant and did not care that we drove 3 hours and don’t have place to stay (our paid booking at their hotel was still confirmed). In the end they found room at different hotel for us but kept the money even tho it was much cheaper.
Although the property is in Old Monterey, a busy area, the hotel is quiet. The rooms seem to be secluded from the hustle and bustles of cars, people.
The atmosphere is peaceful, quiet and private.
We stayed in a king standard room for 2 nights and decided to stay in the one available suite for
an extra night
Walking distance to the triple D restaurant, old town, historical museums, shopping and Monterey’s Old Fisherman’s Wharf! A little Over a mile to cannery row.
This hotel was spotlessly clean, modern in its decor, comfortable bed and fluffy towels, nice refrigerator and furniture, and walking distance to the Monterey Fair Grounds (where we were attending a festival). There is also a very nice restaurant (Monterey Cookhouse) and a CVS drug store both walking distance from the hotel. The proprietor was kind enough to allow us to check in early as the room was available. She was a very pleasant person who made us feel welcome.
Great location, quiet and spaced perfectly for local adventures. Staff was best staff I've experienced in a hotel super friendly and made our stay amazing. The Buffet Breakfast was awesome and the juicing machine was a hit for the kids. The pool and games were also perfect for the kids. Also located within minutes from Monterey Wharf, Carmel, 17 mile drive, and Big Sur, so many fun things to do for all! Definitely will stay here again in the future.
This is the second time my family and I have stayed at this establishment. It is a bare bones hotel, but the employees are nice and helpful. Even though it is an older property, everything was clean and in working condition. The beds were comfortable and the location was peaceful enough to get a good night's sleep. A large mall is within walking distance, so it is quite easy to find food quickly. Also, downtown Monterey is a 15 minute walk away.
Beautiful setting right on the Monterey Bay. Gorgeous views from our ocean view rooms, the sound of crashing waves under the property all day long, marine life nature sounds, one of the most relaxing hotels I’ve ever been to!
Restaurant location and quality was amazing too! Nice lounge and bar area to get together with family in the evening. Great central location for excursions around the area, very walkable.
We only stayed for one night as we were on a driving tour and stopped in Monterey to go Whale watching. Casa Munras was recommended as a good comfortable hotel in a good location and it filled all of those things very well.
There was a lovely looking bar area that we unfortunately did not get to try as we had dinner out on our only night there and it was closed by the time we got back.
Location, location, location.
I flew into Monterey very early and went directly to the hotel. I asked the man at the reception desk if it was possible to get an early check in. He contacted housekeeper and within 30minutes I had a room. In the meantime he had offered coffee from their lobby stock which tasted delicious . They have a water cooler in the lobby as well.
Our room was very comfortable and spotless. It is conveniently close to the part of Monterey with the restaurants and activities. (It is not close enough to walk unless you are "younger" ) It was still very expensive since it was on a Saturday night but more reasonable than hotels closer to the water.
We had an overnight stay at the hotel during our visit to Monterey. The receptionist was friendly and took the time to explore all the available options, suggesting the ones that best suited our preferences. The spacious room with a double bed comfortably accommodated all of us.
Exceptional location - cant have it better. Right on the beach and 10 mins from downtown Monterey. The breakfast area at the Waterfront restaurant on the 4th floor has phenomenal views and wonderful meals. This place is ideal for relaxation. And the price is just right!
We love the location of Hotel Pacific. Mostly we LOVE the comfortable rooms with sofa, fireplace and kitchenette. The grounds landscaping is lovely. The staff is very nice and accommodating. The breakfast is very good and the breakfast area is nice.
Room was excellent, tastefully decorated and exceeded our expectations. The hotel's in a really good location walkable through to downtown Monterey. Parking was also readily available for a small charge.
Great location on the beach and cannery row. Close to 17-mile drive, great restaurants, and fisherman's wharf. In room sauna, although it took forever to heat up. I would prefer the in room soaking tub.
the location of this property couldn’t be more ideal if you want to explore beautiful Monterey. it is an easy 10-15 minute stroll to the centre and another 10-15 to Cannery Row & the aquarium.
It was the worst hotel I’ve stayed at and it was so expensive and for nothing! Besides the fact that the hotel is located on the beach everything else was disappointing.
The property is beautiful and right on the water in Monterey. In the center of Cannery Row. Property is very clean and employees very nice and helpful.
