This conference will examine the transdisciplinary ethics of how death is de ned in our contemporary health care settings across the lifespan. Also examined will be the ethical concerns of death determination as challenged by the neurological versus cardiopulmonary imperative; barriers to autonomy in the dying process; and the in uence of the popular media on lay perceptions of death and dying.

Objectives:  
At the completion of this educational activity participants will:
  1. Better understand the ethical challenges of de ning and rede ning death in the modern context of health care.
  2. Recognize that end of life decision making is directly impacted by the psychological, social, and clinical context in which those decisions are made.
