80022530: 17th Update on the Treatment of Alzheimer`s and Related Disorders 2011

  • 02 Apr 2011
  • Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, Baltimore, MD, United States

Description

This annual activity is designed to provide an update of state-of-the-art, practical approaches to the care of patients and their caregivers, with dementia and Alzheimer`s disease, for all groups of health care professionals. This year`s activity will focus on treatment of non-Alzheimer`s dementias. Alzheimer`s and related dementias are a major public health problem that is rapidly growing in prevalence with the aging of the population. Clinicians in several specialties and settings are called upon to provide care for such patients. Dementia care is complex, constantly evolving with new diagnostic and treatment advances, and interdisciplinary.
The morning session of the activity will review four different dementias and discuss the treatment options for each. This will be followed by an expert panel discussion on the issues involved with selecting a quality dementia care facility. In response to our past audiences, we have crafted afternoon breakout sessions that will focus on the varying educational needs of our attendees. The breakouts will feature a physician and non-physician learning tract to address the unique needs of the audience.

general psychiatrists, geriatric psychiatrists, psychologists, geriatricians, internists, family practitioners, pharmacologists, nurses, nurse practitioners, social workers, pharmacists, administrators, and other professionals.
