Description

This course is designed to provide a comprehensive review of the pathologic processes that affect the oral and maxillofacial areas, including major and minor salivary glands, jaws and oral mucosa. Neoplastic, inflammatory, odontogenic, fibro-osseous, developmental, and metabolic diseases are discussed, with emphasis on histopathologic criteria and clinical correlation that would aid a practicing surgical pathologist in establishing a diagnosis. Both lecture and microscopic slide review will be used. This course is appropriate for general pathologists, oral pathologists, residents, fellows, and other practitioners who are interested in the histopathology of oral and maxillofacial disease. Includes Salivary Gland Fasicle CD and online access to slides for one year following course.
NOTE:  Each participant will be given the syllabus on CD.  There will be no printed syllabus.  The syllabus will also be available on www.askafip.org.


Participants in Surgical Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology will gain:
  • Enhanced knowledge of the pathology of common and unique diseases of the oral and maxillofacial region, including salivary gland neoplasia.
  • Improved recognition of the histopathologic features of oral and maxillofacial tumors.
  • Appropriate application of special studies for diagnostic adjuncts such as imunohistochemical and histochemical techniques.
