10th IEA Heat Pump Conference 2011

  • 16-19 May 2011
  • Hotel Chinzanso Tokyo, Japan

Description

Heat pumps are widely used as heating devices worldwide and have significant importance on global carbon dioxide emissions. As you surely aware, heat pumps can multiply renewable energy from ground source, ambient air and waste, sweet or sea water, and transfer these into useable heat. Depending on the driving energy, carbon dioxide emissions can be lowered by factors. If we compare direct burning of oil or gas in a burner with cogeneration power plants producing driving energy for heat pumps, primary energy demand and, consequently, carbon dioxide emissions can be reduced to 30% depending, of course, on the climatic conditions. If renewable energy such as hydro power drove heat pumps, 100 % of carbon dioxide emissions could be avoided. Heat pumps are the solution for a low carbon world!

Although in many countries air conditioning and cooling are more important than heating, a refrigeration unit functions technically the same way as a heat pump. This equipment must also be improved in order to save non-renewable energy and lower carbon dioxide emissions.

There has been a steady technological improvement in heat pumping equipment as well as a continuously rising market share, but there is still potential for further developments and a wider use of this technology. Increases in efficiencies (in all aspects) and decreases in costs will be the main subjects of future developments. This is the core reason why the upcoming 10th conference in this series is becoming a very interesting and outcome-oriented event. I am sure that all attendees will profit from the numerous presentations, the divers workshops the day before the conference, from the presence of worldwide experts and the intensive discussions which are set to take place. And, it goes without saying, that the event will be well-organized and offer many occasions to socialize. A very warm welcome from the Japanese colleagues who are now finalizing the conference details with full intensity! Final call for papers
