NYLA 2010 Annual Conference

  • 03-06 Nov 2010
  • Saratoga Hilton, Saratoga Springs, NY, United States

Description

When you walk in a library as a student doing a paper, a mother looking for books for a young child, a homeowner needing to repair a faucet, an laid off worker looking for a job, a doctor treating her patient, a businessman starting a new business we want you to succeed and we can help you do it.

You don t just find books in a library. You find people who care. You find people who want you to succeed.

That s why my theme this year is The Library: YOUR story starts here.

We, as librarians, do THIS:  We help people start the story of their lives. We give them possibilities. We open up the world for them. Walk in our doors: all are welcome; doesn t matter who you are. You can be a pugnacious kid from Yonkers who can t get along with your brother. Or a rough guy too tough to be labeled a reader.  Or you name it.

The library is about possibilities. We should be proud of what we do.  We transform people s lives. We give people hope. We give them a future.
