The old-town centre of Bern is beautiful and features miles of galleried walkways. Walking down the main axis from the train station through the old town along Spitalgasse, Marktgasse, Kramgasse, Gerechtigkeitsgasse & Nydegasse towards BärenPark is lovely and takes you past the amazing Zytglogge (a historical clocktower with fascinating moving mechanical features; well-worth a tour) and Berner Münster, the beautiful cathedral (which can also be climbed for glorious views out to the Alps, and features a terrace, a wonderful place to meet, relax, play boules, have a coffee & cake). Along this axis there are many beautiful and fascinating fountain-statues. Linger in BärenPark to view the huge brown bears chilling out.
For cheaper eating, try the Coop Marktgasse which has a huge array of hot and cold food & drink in an attractive communal hall. There are several exciting bars, some nestled in cellars, along the axis.
The buses and trams, like all Swiss public transport are incredibly reliable and run to time.
Train trips to Basel and Lucerne are well worth a day.

I've written a strong and detailed letter of complaint about my stay here to the hotel management. There were numerous problems, the most serious being the dangerous state of a bedside light wiring and the scalding hot water from the shower that could not be controlled. Apart from that, a very lengthy check-in, no meals of any kind available at 21:30 and an insincere apology from the receptionist when we left the follow morning. I would have insisted on talking to the manager, had we not had travel arrangements that prevented this. Plenty of other hotels in Bern, so avaoid this one.

Amazing, picturesque, and very accommodating!
Amazing, picturesque, and very accommodating! Excellent food and drinks, and lots of wonderful things to see all within a short walking distance. There was a city wide marathon while I was there and that did not impede or make my travel difficult in any way.

The town has surprised me for its quiet charm.
The town has surprised me for its quiet charm. The flowers were blossoming in the parks along the river. The bears were so funny to watch! The centre is lively, clean and has an interesting mix of modernity and history. An exquisite visit, leaving very warm memories to bring back home.

Lovely city, relaxing stay.
Lovely city, relaxing stay. One full day with overnight stay is sufficient to see main attractions. Enjoyed panoramic view of the city from the Rose garden, go up there an hour before sunset and have a picnic dinner. Free transportation ticket as instructed by the hotel.

Bern is a beautiful city.
Bern is a beautiful city. The availability of public transport allows you to enjoy your time without wasting time waiting. The addition of free local transport included in your hotel stay is excellent and allows you to concentrate on where you want to go rather than the cost. Yes, it can be expensive for food and drinks, but the service and facilities are excellent. We visited everywhere we want to go Paul Klee Zentrum, the Bear Park, Einstein museum, the clock tower and the Parliament building is stunning. For the boys we visiting the Wankdorf football stadium which was interesting and easy to get too also. We finished our trip back in Basel before heading to the airport sitting with coffee overlooking the Rhine in the swiss sunshine.

The property was clean, and the staff was attentive. We had a problem with our air conditioner leaking water. (It was extremely hot in Switzerland). Within 5 minutes of calling the front desk, two staff members arrived, accessed the situation; and in 15 mins. we were moved to another room and given a free breakfast for our troubles. Although I was not aware of any on site restaurants, there were myriad options locally.
The breakfast room was open during the day with hot water and microwave supplied. This was a real bonus, as eating out was way too expensive in Switzerland. All hotels should take note of this.
Staff were polite and helpful. Tram stop close by and made easy access to the city and station. Hotel provided a free tram and bus pass.
Very unique , has the aura of nyc in the 90s.
The house is very clean, feels like staying in 5 stars hotel.
House is just nice to fit a family of 5 who is looking to take a vacation in bern.
A walking distance to the public transport and the city.
