We are pleased to inform you that the Malaysian Society of Nephrology (MSN) is organizing the 14th Congress of the International Society of Peritoneal Dialysis. The congress has been scheduled on the 9-12th September 2012 (ISPD 2012) at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.
The incidence of end stage renal failure is on the rise in the Asian continent and the Asian Nephrology community is dealing with rising numbers of ESRD patients requiring dialysis. Diabetes mellitus accounts for almost half of all dialysis patients in most centres. The associated comorbidities of diabetic patients are well recognized. In addition, parts of Asia also provide dialysis to an older population and this may further hamper efforts to provide equitable treatment for all. Peritoneal dialysis provides a reasonable alternative in the management of end stage renal failure especially in patients with coexistent cardiovascular disease and difficulties with vascular access. The ISPD 2012 will feature exciting state-of-the art scientific deliberations in basic research as well as review current issues in the management of patients on peritoneal dialysis.
