  • 01 Dec 2010
  • Sixty One Whitehall, London, United Kingdom

Description

This seminar will address the role of the criminal justice system in modern Britain, examining the main mechanisms in place to manage offenders, maintain public safety, and support victims of crime - and how these might develop. Discussion will focus on the remit of the recently established Sentencing Council, including an assessment of its core responsibilities and the impact of sentencing practice. In addition, the appropriate function and powers of the parole board will be considered, along with the broader implications of imprisonment periods for re-offending levels and for victims of crime.
