The procedure of identifying victims of disasters either major (such as terrorist attacks or earthquakes) or smaller (such as aeroplane crashes) cannot rely on visual recognition alone. Comparison of dental records, fingerprints, and / or DNA samples with ones stored in databases or taken from victims’ personal effects are often required to obtain a conclusive identification.
