Description

Car enthusiasts, or anyone who likes to have a revved-up good time, may want to zoom on over to the Chandler Car Show 2013. While the show is not until February 23, 2013, now is the time to register your vehicle since the event’s website notes the show only takes first 150 entries that fill out and send in their registration form. Even if you miss the boat, so to speak, on registering your car to be part of the show, there are plenty of reasons you may want to be a part of this annual extravaganza.

What You’ll Find at the Chandler Car Show 2013

Snacks, foods, arts and crafts will also be featured at the show, to keep you well-fed and artistically inclined throughout the day. But that’s not why you’re there now, is it?

Cars are the main attraction, as the show’s name so states, and the entries are limited to pre-1980s classic cars and hotrods. Those might be yummier than the lobster bisque! With a lineup that can include Corvettes and Camaros, classic Chevy cars are always super-hot hotrods when they make it into the show. When you’re meandering about town, you may want to take a peek inside a Chandler Chevrolet dealer to see the sporty inventory on hand.

Classic Chevys are just one make that usually make it to the show, with other colorful entries showcased in photos on the car show website. A few of those featured include many classics: Pontiac GTO, a vintage pickup or two, a Ford Thunderbird, and super-classic antique autos in mint enough condition to appear as if they were built yesterday.

Where to Find It

Downtown Chandler, endearingly called "DC," is the show’s place. And what a place it is! This suburb of the mighty Phoenix is excelling in its own right when it comes to things to see and do. Sure, you’ll be spending the day at the car show, which is open to the public from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., but there’s always the next day or the previous day or that evening to spend in Chandler.

What You’ll Find in Chandler

Festivals, art, music and nightlife are some of the main attractions noted on the Downtown Chandler website, while shopping and a downtown historic district are others. Festivals typically consist of seasonal events, although the Downtown Chandler Art Walk is held every third Friday of the month throughout the year. Top off the art selection with a handful of galleries and artsy shops, and you’ll be swimming with creative inspiration.

Live music is a feature at several bars and clubs around town, which brings you right into the heart of DC’s happening nightlife. Pubs, bar and grills, and even a brewery make up your hang-out options, many of which offer specialty foods like a to-die-for lobster bisque or mouth-watering Mexican fare.

Why the Car Show Exists

It would be remiss to offer a sneak peek of the show without mentioning its origins, especially since 2013 marks the 10-year anniversary of the event. The two owners of the Country Clipper Barber Shop, the late Jerry Biondi and Maury Williamson, founded the show in 2003 for several reasons. One was to boost awareness of the downtown area, which has plenty of food and sights to offer. Others were to raise money for local non-profits, give back to the downtown community and, perhaps most importantly, "have car enthusiasts enjoy some good old classic cars," the show`s website says.
