Educational Objectives

After attending the symposium, participants should be able to
  • Discuss current evidence-based methods in the management and treatment of sepsis;
  • Explain evidence-based methods of managing pain and sleep deprivation;
  • Describe and discuss neo-critical care issues, including ethical concerns and end-of-life care;
  • Discuss how nutritional support optimizes patient outcomes in critical care;
  • Explain the current rationale and approaches for optimal utilization of high frequency ventilation in both pediatric and adult population;
  • Explain both the risks and benefits of invasive and noninvasive mechanical ventilation;
  • Explain the various methods of obtaining hemodynamic readings, how to effectively interpret waveforms and the challenges associated with invasive monitoring;
  • Explain new modalities in assessing cardiac disease;
  • Discuss ventilator strategies in common disease conditions as well as the benefits and concerns associated with various modes of ventilator support;
  • Recognize new molecular targets in the treatment of cancer.
