This is an interactive, case-and evidence-based review for finishing and recent graduates of pediatric surgery fellowship programs.
At the conclusion of this course the participants will have
Shared current expertise and training experiences with other finishing fellows
Participated in a comprehensive review of the clinical and non-clinical knowledge
base needed for beginning an independent practice in pediatric general surgery
Identified areas of weakness that require further study
This course is not designed as a review for the American Board of Surgery examinations.
COURSE TOPICS The program will cover a broad range of clinical subjects including interactive discussions on management and surgical decision-making. Clinical topics include:
Complex and controversial cases
Thoracic surgery
Neonatal surgery
Gastrointestinal surgery
Oncologic surgery
Trauma and burns
Pre- and postoperative care
Again this year will feature discussions of non-clinical subjects of interest to the beginning pediatric surgeons, including:
Doing successful clinical research
Mentoring
Billing and coding
Professional and career development
Leadership skills
Principles of adult education
Risk management
Evidence-based medicine
Retirement planning
