Unlocking the Local Power Connection 2010

  • 15-16 Oct 2010
  • Bircham Dyson Bell, London, United Kingdom

Description

Since 18th August this year local authorities across the UK have had the restrictions on generating and selling renewable energy removed, following a recent announcement from the Energy and Climate Change Secretary Chris Huhne. Huhne described how it provides a remarkable opportunity for local authorities to contribute further to meeting renewables targets while fully benefitting from renewables incentives such as feed-in-tariffs`. The potential for local authorities to lead the way in clean energy generation has been highlighted due to the amount of local authority owned land, combined with a new ability to benefit from the new feed-in-tariff payments. The idea is to give local authorities an active role in the low carbon transition with them deciding how any revenue is spent.

This seminar will look at the opportunities this lifting of restrictions provides for councils who wish to generate their own energy locally and demonstrate successful case studies of how schemes have been implemented and connection to the grid provided.

The seminar will cover the following: The impact of feed-in tariffs and the removal of the ban on councils selling green energy to the grid What the change means for local authorities Connecting community energy schemes to the grid Building localized energy schemes into developments: experiences and lessons learnt How can local authorities and developers gain maximum benefit from feed-in-tariffs?
