The Spectrum of Developmental Disabilities XXXIII 2011 activity will provide an interdisciplinary approach to the issues of autism in school-aged children. It will present issues relating to the evaluation, diagnosis, and management of autism spectrum disorders and associated co-morbidities. The activity will address developmental issues that cross the lifespan from elementary school into adulthood.
OBJECTIVES
After attending this activity, the participant will demonstrate the ability to:
- List the proposed differences in diagnostic criteria that will result from the adoption of DSM V
- Delineate the components of a complete diagnostic evaluation of children suspected of having Autism Spectrum Disorder
- Identify the types of services/accommodations that are related to success in school for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder
- Discuss the unique qualities of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder that affect transition to independence
- List and discuss the management options of the common comorbidities that affect the management of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder
